This year, we featured a special session titled "Tax Preparedness for Artists," led by Amy Atzel from GigTaxx. Amy shared invaluable insights for artists, freelancers, and entrepreneurs on maximizing tax deductions and credits, helping to make tax time less stressful.     Be Part of Honoring the Collective Spirit at Oglala Lakota Artspace! First Peoples Fund is seeking a temporary Program Assistant for the Oglala Lakota Artspace (OLA). This role is crucial in supporting events, assisting workshop leaders, hosting Artists in Residence (AiR), and providing office support to our Program Managers and the Associate Director of OLA. Position: Temporary Program Assistant, OLA Pay: $15 - $25/hour (based on skills and experience) Schedule: Full-time, Monday to Friday (with possible weekends/evenings) Location: Oglala Lakota Artspace, Kyle, SD The OLA, the first dedicated art space on the Pine Ridge Reservation, is a hub for cultural, creative, and educational activities grounded in the Collective Spirit®.     We’re rounding out our exciting highlights of our 2024 Cultural Capital Fellows by celebrating tai simpson! tai, known as "The Storyteller" in the Nimiipuu language of the Nez Perce Tribe of Idaho, is a dynamic force in social justice, politics, and community organizing in Boise, Idaho. A direct descendant of Chief Redheart, tai brings vibrant energy and passion to her work as an advocate and organizer. As the Founder & Director of the Idaho Indigenous Alliance, tai has led powerful initiatives like the passage of HCR033 Missing Indigenous Persons in 2020 and has taken a strong stance in litigation against restrictive abortion laws in Idaho. Her storytelling, blending contemporary and traditional Indigenous narratives, has inspired audiences on platforms like TEDxBoise and Boise State Public Radio.     We’re thrilled to announce that applications are now open for the Native Performing Arts Production Grant through First Peoples Fund’s Native Performing Arts Program (NPAP). This grant is designed to support Native-led performing arts productions, providing up to $30,000 in funding to help bring your live performance to life—whether it’s a theatrical play, Indigenous fashion show, music performance, or another innovative project. Key Dates: Application Window: August 26 - September 23, 2024 Award Year: January 1 - December 31, 2025 “Production” means the artist(s) are actively engaged in creating a live piece of work, either in person or virtual. Productions can include: theatrical plays, Indigenous fashion shows, touring for Native performance groups, performances in Native communities, and other forms of live performance that may not fit into conventional performance categories (such as festivals, concerts, and fairs).
