Our organization took succession planning seriously. I was one of 20 employees identified as a future leader and invited to a three-day offsite with the executive team. When I arrived, I realized… I was the only woman. Despite the company's good intentions, I couldn’t help but feel distracted and disappointed. There were so many incredible women in the organization who I believed were future leaders. Where were they? Succession planning can be powerful and transformative, but it’s also challenging to get right.
