Fire Chief Steve Prziborowski is back with me to talk about his best selling book “101 Tips to Ace Your Promotional Exam.” While most volunteer agencies do not have promotional exams in order for members to advance up the chain, the fact is many of the tips he talks about are universal and apply to firefighters everywhere. And, even though there may not be an exam, members aspiring to promote up still must win an election or gain a board appointment. They also must gain their comrades trust and support and learn how to keep it. The chief offers advice on the soft skills and provides some hard truths that can be used by any firefighter looking to move up in the ranks or simply to become a better performing and more accepted member in their hometown department.
