Unrivaled, a new 3x3 women’s basketball league co-founded by WNBA players Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, gives players equity and will offer the highest average salary in women’s pro sports league history. This will help to keep players in the U.S. during the #WNBA offseason. 👏 Ally, the league’s founding partner, has committed to the 50/50 Pledge: committing an equal paid media spend across women’s and men’s sports. Say it louder for the people in the back 📢

The WNBA (Women's National Basketball Association) has agreed to $2.2 billion in new media rights deals with ESPN, Amazon and NBC over the next 11 years, marking a significant milestone for women’s sports. Rookie seasons of stars like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese have ignited unprecedented interest in the league, and this is just the beginning! The new contract also allows the #WNBA to sell up to two additional game packages to other outlets, expanding its reach and visibility. ESPN, Amazon, and NBC have agreed to revisit the deal in three years to ensure they reflect the league’s true value, providing flexibility and potential for growth.

This year we celebrate the return of the Olympic Games to Paris after 100 years! But did you know that Paris also hosted the first “Female Olympic Games” in 1922 ahead of the 1924 Olympics? Alice Milliat would not stand for the exclusion of women from elite Olympic events, so she created alternate stages to feature female athletic excellence. Milliat pointedly used the famed “Olympic” name for the "Female Olympic Games" to draw attention to the lack of women competing at the #Olympics at the time. Her efforts and leadership undoubtedly helped in finally reaching gender parity at the #Paris2024 Games. Thank you, Alice!

⭐️ Angel City FC makes history ⭐️ Kara Nortman and Julie Uhrman dreamt up the concept for Angel City Football Club during a backyard pick-up game at Shelley Zalis' home. Robyn Ward, Talia Bender Small and Shelley gathered women in venture capital each month to play basketball together. Angel City FC was founded in 2020 and has experienced exponential growth year over year. Willow Bay, dean of the USC Annenberg School, and her husband, Bob Iger, CEO of the Walt Disney Company, have agreed to acquire a controlling stake in Angel City FC that values the club at $250 million. This comes on the heels of a string of landmark valuations among women’s sports teams in leagues from the NWSL to WNBA. Despite the incontestable excellence of female athletes across the world, there is still a massive disparity in the pay, media coverage and sponsorships they receive. This is a big step in the right direction 👏

We know that women athletes make considerably less than men but it's so much so, that Arsenal F.C and Lioness star Leah Williamson shared that retirement isn’t possible with her current earnings. Keep in mind, a professional athlete’s retirement looks a bit different than those in other careers, and a player in say, The Premier League could retire on a whim if he wanted to given that the average salary for a Premier League player is around £3.6 million—or $4.7 million. Meanwhile, the average WSL salary is just £47,000 and: ➡️ 36% of players take on further education for something to fall back on ➡️ 20% of players have a second full-time job ➡️ 23% reported they took unpaid leave to pursue their WSL career The playing field is far from equal, even when viewership continues to rise across women’s sports. Let’s keep working toward increased spectators, sponsorships, and support.
