  • The Brink's Job of 1950 remains one of the most audacious heists in American history. On the night of Jan. 17, 1950, a gang of seasoned criminals executed a meticulously planned robbery. Dressed in Navy-type peacoats and chauffeur’s caps, the gang entered the offices of Brink's Armored Car Depot in Boston; bound the employees; and made off with approximately $2.7 million in cash, checks, and securities. To crack the case, FBI special agents employed a range of innovative measures and went to extraordinary lengths. They harnessed advanced forensic technologies, collaborated closely with local law enforcement, and engaged specialized analysts to dissect complex evidence. Even when the trail seemed cold and hope waned, the special agents' resolve grew stronger. Their relentless pursuit led to the recovery of a significant portion of the stolen money and brought the culprits to justice. The FBI's commitment to solving complex cases like the Brink's Job demonstrates the crucial role special agents play in upholding justice. Ready to make a difference? • On National Overdose Awareness Day, the FBI highlights its ongoing commitment to dismantling the criminal enterprises fueling the opioid crisis. In 2023, Kristen Van Steenberg Ball was convicted of distributing more than 1 million oxycodone pills through a network of individuals posing as patients. Investigating this case were FBI special agents who introduced an undercover operative posing as a patient's nephew who admitted to sharing prescribed pills with family members. Despite acknowledging this as "a felony," Dr. Ball continued prescribing escalating quantities of oxycodone to the undercover operative, promising to omit this information from the patient file. FBI special agents play a crucial role in these investigations, leveraging their expertise to disrupt drug trafficking organizations and bring offenders to justice. By working closely with federal, state, and local partners, the FBI ensures that drug traffickers are held accountable and that communities are protected. As we observe National Overdose Awareness Day, consider joining the FBI as a special agent and becoming part of our mission to create a safer, more just future.
