Clutter Coach | Fair Play Facilitator | Pro Organizer | CEO of A Pleasant Solution | Speaker | Podcast Host | Feminist Coach on Emotional Labor + The Invisible Load | Household Management + Productivity

It was my pleasure to welcome Eve Rodsky, author of “Fair Play,” to A Pleasant Solution podcast. As a Clutter Coach + Fair Play Facilitator I have intimate knowledge of how the imbalance of care tasks and responsibilities within our homes is disrupting family life and the mental health of women shouldering the burden of invisible work. This can't continue. In Episode 86, Eve and I explore: 📆 Time choice - what it is, why it matters, and how it’s the thread underlying our paid + unpaid labor 🧠 USC + The Fair Play Policy Institute's cognitive labor study - the benefit of quantitative data confirming the qualitative data, the first set of results, and how mental health is impacted by the inequitable division of household labor 🏡 Shifting the conversation in homes - how folks are already communicating about care tasks (whether they know it or not ) + why this work is about generational change 🦄 Unicorn Space - how women often struggle to define themselves beyond the 3 P's of parent, partner, and professional due to systemic inequities and how engaging in difficult conversations at home is a win for women, a win for families, and a win for the workplace I invite you to listen in, leave a review, or share your feedback below! ====== 👋🏽 Hey y’all ~ I’m Amelia Pleasant Kennedy: Clutter Coach, Organizing Expert, and Certified Fair Play Method Facilitator. If you’re seeking internal solutions to the external clutter in your life, I invite you to connect with me.

Founder of WRK/360 - Coaching Employees and Managers navigating Care and Career from Parental Leave through Elder Care | Fair Play Training Director & Facilitator | Mom of 2

Last week I had the privilege of leading the Certified Fair Play Method Facilitator training with my amazing co-facilitator Lucinda Gibbons, MMFT! Working with The Fair Play Policy Institute to create and train professionals (over 350 to date!) on the Fair Play Method is one of my favorite parts of the work that I do in order to support leaders navigating paid work and unpaid work. 🌟 Parenting and caregiving has NEVER been separate from work and it's time for us to stop pretending it is. Fair Play gives families the tools to rebalance their loads, reclaim their time and reconnect to each other to improve their relationships so everyone can go after their personal and professional goals! I am so thrilled that this incredible group of professionals now has the tools to share how to implement the Fair Play Method with their clients and continue to change culture one individual, one family at a time. • One day while driving to pick up her son from a toddler transition program, Eve Rodsky received a text from her husband that changed the course of her life: “I’m surprised you didn’t get blueberries.” After this “blueberries breakdown” that opened her eyes to the mental load that so many like her lived with every day, Rodsky knew she had to help make their invisible, unspoken work visible. Thus, Fair Play book, card game, and documentary based on a new system for fairly re-divvying up household labor, was born. Rodsky sat down with Danielle Robay and Simone Boyce on #TheBrightSide to chat about the insights she and the Fair Play team have gleaned from their brand-new research in partnership with University of Southern California — including the “life-changing magic of mustard” 👀 Tune in to the episode here: https://lnkd.in/eJEzDTEc

I had the amazing opportunity to speak at the recent Real Estate Finance Forum (REFF)! I got to dive into the topic of Equanimity with a conference room FULL of women. 👏 A huge thank you goes out to to Sheila Urban, MBA Urban, Director of Strategic Growth, LG DEVELOPMENT GROUP LLC for inviting me to be there and sharing these kind words: “I've heard nothing but amazing feedback from everyone that attended the event. At LG, there was a ton of buzz about the FULL conference room of women!” The LG Development offices set the stage for a great space to bring people together. It was an honor to be with so many fantastic women at this event! #equanimity #realestate #womeninleadership The Fair Play Policy Institute

• Back-to-school season can bring out some of the most overwhelming and least talked about forms of cognitive labor. Like all caregiving and domestic tasks, the knowledge of how to handle them is not innate. Even parsing a school bus schedule is an essential skill that takes time to learn - time that is just as valuable as time spent in service of paid work outside of the home. Parents, whether you have held the cards of school-related tasks for years or are experiencing your first back-to-school season with your kids, know that it's not all in your head. The stress is real. The mental load is, too. Don't wait to have open conversations about fairly divvying up tasks and seek support from friends, family, school resources, and beyond. This is work, and it deserves to be acknowledged. For women to step into their full power in the world, let’s invite men to step into their full power in the home. Eve Rodsky, Certified Fair Play Method Facilitators, WRK/360, Mary Beth Ferrante, PCC, #fairplay, #school, #mentalload, #labor

    • a friend dm'd me that her school district sent every kids bus schedule through a new app, all the instructions for access were sent to only one parent email address per kid: all the dads. she said it's been true chaos, Facebook posts every day about it and no one can find their kids info.
    • to everyone doing about 10,000 cognitive load tasks like this a day, both those who have done them for so long by default and those who are taking them on for the first time, know that we see you. it's labor and you're not alone in the struggle.

Executive Coach, Clinical Psychologist, Working Parent Consultant, Speaker | Helping women go from perfectionism → to focused & confident leaders | 100s of empowered & aligned women now thriving at work & home

I got trained as a The Fair Play Policy Institute facilitator to support my clients at home and at work. I didn’t realize it would also become a parenting tool! (If you’re not familiar with the Fair Play body of work, developed by Eve Rodsky it’s a modality used to create a more equitable division of household tasks by making the invisible labor visible and shared fairly among all members of the household.) The other night, my 13-year-old son who is a warm, generous, kind kid was complaining about dinner—again. He’s smart, funny, and an includer. I’m so proud of him but after having rice two days in a row, he wasn’t happy. What I wanted to say was not going to be helpful. So I took a breath, and thought "What is my goal here?" To get him to stop complaining, sure, but it is also to feel seen in my work. Enter fair play. I stopped and explained to him the mental load that goes into making dinner for a family of 6, in which we have food allergies and food pickiness as well. All that goes into planning safe meals, making grocery lists, including variety, and cooking within the time available. Then I invited him to contribute—by suggesting meals, adding to the grocery list, or cooking with me. He hasn’t taken me up on the offer yet, but guess what? No more complaints since that night. Fair Play is about more than just tasks. It’s about empathy, connection, and making invisible work visible. At it's heart, it's what we all want- to feel seen and valued in the hard work that we do. That is why it is an important part of my work supporting women- this focus on making the invisible visible in their homes and at work is helpful for how they see themselves and how others shift their own ideas. It's why I use fair play with individual clients, teach it in groups, AND bring it into corporations. And I hope, in this case, it was helpful learning for him and his future partner too!
