Leefort Terrace is the gold standard for affordable and climate-resilient public housing. Secretary Augustus broke ground earlier this week on this project that will replace 50 existing units of housing and add 74 new 100% affordable homes for extremely low-income residents. Congratulations to the City of Salem, Massachusetts, the Salem Housing Authority and Beacon Communities LLC for this incredible achievement.

Secretary Augustus gave the Jane Jacobs Lecture at Boston College on Wednesday evening. Housing is at the intersection of our economy, our education, our environment and even our mental health and wellbeing. From the Affordable Homes Act to the implementation of the MBTA Communities Law, we are working to make housing more affordable for everyone.

“The Catalyst Fund is yet another tool to jumpstart housing production in newly adopted multi-family zoning districts. The MBTA Communities law is working. Already, more than 1,600 units of housing are in the pipeline to be built in MBTA Community zoning districts with several communities going above and beyond the guidelines. We need more housing to meet the current demand, and the MBTA Communities Catalyst Fund gives our communities a hand as they work to build housing that works for them.” - Housing and Livable Communities Secretary Ed Augustus https://lnkd.in/ezk7svN3

Secretary Augustus sat down with regional business leaders in the Berkshires today to talk about solutions to the housing crisis. Since 2022, the Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities has given $32.5 million in subsidies and $11.5 million in federal and state LIHTC to developments in Berkshire County. We are partnering with these communities to do more to build workforce housing to retain our talented workers. The Affordable Homes Act will give us the tools, like ADUs and Seasonal Communities, to do even more. Thank you 1Berkshire for hosting.
