One month ago, Governor Healey signed the Affordable Homes Act into law. We packed a lot into that bill. Commercial conversions, Accessory Dwelling Units by right, spending authorizations for more affordable housing, more investment in our public housing, more housing for veterans, more green housing. Now that it’s been signed into law, we're rolling up our sleeves to put all of this into action. We look forward to providing more information on these initiatives in the coming months, sign up at mass.gov/aha for periodic email updates.

Our hotels, restaurants and shops are the lifeblood of our economy on the Cape. But the people keeping those businesses running simply can’t afford to live there. Today, Secretary Augustus joined Lieutenant Governor Driscoll to celebrate the Affordable Homes Act on the Cape. The Affordable Homes Act creates a Seasonal Communities Coordinating Council, that will craft innovative solutions to create homes for our workforce, homes for our seniors and homes for our young people who want to stay here.

For over 75 years Needham Housing Authority has provided safe, decent, and affordable housing to local residents. Secretary Augustus toured Needham’s Linden Street redevelopment project last Friday. This project is the perfect example of how resources from the Affordable Homes Act will be spent, and ultimately restore dignity to our residents living in public housing.
