Massachusetts NAHRO has been a strong advocate for preserving our public housing stock and expanding affordable housing options across Massachusetts. In addition to the record investment in public housing, the Affordable Homes Act includes provisions to make our public housing more efficient and responsive to tenants. This is a new chapter for public housing in Massachusetts. Last night, MassNAHRO recognized Secretary Augustus for his commitment to preserving and producing housing across the state.

Thank you Somerville-Cambridge Elder Services for your continued advocacy and all you do to support our seniors. At their annual forum this morning, Secretary Augustus spoke about the importance of embedding supportive services in housing. The Affordable Homes Act creates a flexible supportive housing pool program to provide vital assistance to those who need a little extra help. Most importantly, it authorizes $200 million for a Housing Innovations Fund to support people experiencing homelessness, our seniors, our veterans or those in recovery.

This morning, Secretary Augustus attended the 2024 Statewide Municipal Partnerships Conference to talk about the importance of working together to make Massachusetts more affordable. EOHLC is working with the newly created Housing Advisory Council to create a statewide housing plan that will create regional frameworks for housing production that will meet the unique needs of every community.

📣 Shout out to our #EOHLC #MBTACommunitiesLaw team, and our friends from MHP (Massachusetts Housing Partnership) and Citizens' Housing and Planning Association (CHAPA) for always lending their support. 76 communities have adopted zoning intended for compliance with the law - 36 have been approved or conditionally approved. Each zoning district is unique and approving their applications takes a lot of time and careful review. Thank you for your hard work. #TeamHLC

Leefort Terrace is the gold standard for affordable and climate-resilient public housing. Secretary Augustus broke ground earlier this week on this project that will replace 50 existing units of housing and add 74 new 100% affordable homes for extremely low-income residents. Congratulations to the City of Salem, Massachusetts, the Salem Housing Authority and Beacon Communities LLC for this incredible achievement.

Secretary Augustus gave the Jane Jacobs Lecture at Boston College on Wednesday evening. Housing is at the intersection of our economy, our education, our environment and even our mental health and wellbeing. From the Affordable Homes Act to the implementation of the MBTA Communities Law, we are working to make housing more affordable for everyone.

What a terrific story! Today, Secretary Augustus joined the celebration of the City of Homes project. Way Finders is giving first-time homebuyers an opportunity to purchase a rehabilitated home in Springfield.
