Along the banks of Lake Superior, Essentia Health's St. Mary's Medical Center redefines the patient experience and challenges contemporary #healthcaredesign strategies with bold, innovative, and sustainable solutions. Our design team and partners envisioned a hospital environment that is comfortable, welcoming, and efficient for patients, families, and staff. Its iconic façade pays homage to the rolling fog of the largest lake in the world and provides striking views throughout each of its 19 floors. Its public areas have the engaging warmth of hospitality spaces, and its patient-centric design drives impactful outcomes by consolidating adaptable inpatient rooms, procedure rooms, and flexibly planned outpatient spaces. At nearly a million SF and the length of 2 football fields, this monumental hospital remains a community-based hospital that puts patients and families first. https://lnkd.in/efCAe96x

EwingCole’s very own Janet Patterson participated in a roundtable discussion at the Women in Leadership Initiative annual Speaker Dinner Series. The conversation kicked off with personal stories of how we got involved in sports-oriented development, followed by insights on how youth team sports teach essential life skills for the business world. The group discussed the evolution of women’s sports and the rising spotlight on iconic women athletes, which is shaping the future of women-focused facilities. From how Camden Yards helped reimagine Baltimore to women's influence on sporting venues, it was a lively evening full of thought-provoking discussions. Thanks to the ULI Baltimore, Janet Marie Smith from the Canopy Group, Carrie LeBow from the Cal Ripken Facility, and Tammy HaQuang, Assoc. Principal at HCM, for such a meaningful conversation! #WomenInLeadership #SportsDevelopment #EwingCole #WomenInSports

The University of Pennsylvania faced a unique challenge in enhancing the experience for its football student-athletes at the historic Franklin Field. Limited space under the east stands required an innovative approach. EwingCole partnered with Penn Athletics to design a modern, two-story facility that maximizes space, reconfiguring concourses to expand locker rooms, meeting spaces, and storage, all while accommodating track and field athletes. The design pays homage to Penn’s iconic red and blue, with the bold “Split P” logo woven throughout the space, from entryways to locker room ceiling panels, fostering team pride and unity. The state-of-the-art facility, with ventilated lockers, spa-like showers, and tiered meeting spaces, enhances the athlete experience and attracts top recruits. The second floor features operable glass partitions that open up to breathtaking views of Penn Park and the Philadelphia skyline, creating a stunning entertainment space. The built environment isn’t one-size-fits-all. Race, gender, socioeconomic background, and physical capabilities shape how we experience spaces, making diverse perspectives essential to inclusive design. Designers must consider these intersecting identities to create environments that go beyond basic needs. How do we incorporate these unique perspectives into the design process? Design Thinking is a human-centered approach with five stages: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test. This process encourages collaboration between creators and users, leading to inclusive solutions in industries like architecture, product design, and technology. "Design Thinking Unplugged," an official event of the DesignPhiladelphia Festival, will show you how empathy and collaboration can lead to innovative solutions that truly serve everyone. Join the EwingCole team at the Haworth to learn how to break down barriers in design. Don’t miss your opportunity to be part of this transformative experience!
