This week, Imperial College London is proud to host the Clean Energy Mission Hackathon at our White City campus, in partnership with 10DS and the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. This three-day event is the first in a series of mission-focused hackathons, starting with the Clean Power Mission 💡. Participants will be using unique datasets provided by the National Energy Systems Operator (NESO) and leading industry partners to solve challenges that will help make Britain a clean energy superpower. Topics include: ⚡ Integrating emissions into dispatch decisions. 📊 Mapping and modelling demand flexibility to meet 2030 targets. 🚗 Analysing factors influencing the uptake of EVs and low-carbon technologies. 🔌 Optimising power infrastructure and distributed energy source deployment. 🛠️ Streamlining grid connections. On Thursday, we’ll be joined by an expert panel featuring Fintan Slye (CEO at NESO) and Neel Gulhar (CPO at Kaluza) to hear about the brilliant ideas and solutions these teams have developed over the course of the week.

🌟 Reflecting on my journey as a 2nd year Economist Apprentice Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, I'm grateful for taking the leap into a degree apprenticeship straight out of sixth form. It's been a decision that has shaped my future in ways I couldn't have imagined. 📆 During the summer of Year 12, like many students, I stood at a crossroads contemplating my future. After careful consideration, I realised the apprenticeship route aligned perfectly with my circumstances and aspirations. 🚀 Now halfway through, the growth and opportunities have been truly incredible. From leading high-priority analyses in the Net Zero domain to gaining experience in data engineering, winning AI hackathons, and even visiting Downing Street multiple times - each experience couldn’t have been dreamt in my wildest of dreams. ⚡️ The most rewarding aspect? Seeing the real-world impact of my work unfold before my eyes. 🙏 I'm humbled that my efforts - both in my role and as an ambassador championing apprenticeships - have led to a nomination for the Apprentice of the Year Award. 🎉 This recognition isn't just a personal achievement; it's a testament to the incredible support from my teachers, mentors, colleagues, and fellow apprentices. 💪 To all young people charting their own paths: Remember, success isn't linear. Embrace challenges, seek opportunities, and know that every experience contributes to your growth.
