Thank you to Jane Garcia and the incredible clinical and program staff at La Clínica de La Raza for hosting members of our Board and team last week! We were inspired by all you do for your patients and the communities you serve, and how you are leveraging #TitleX funding to support your delivery of people-centered family planning services and adolescent health and well-being at your Clínica Alta Vista site and school-based health centers. #TitleXStrong

Today is International Safe Abortion Day, and we are taking this opportunity to honor Amber Thurman and Candi Miller, whose lives were both tragically cut short due to Georgia's restrictive abortion laws. Amber and Candi’s stories highlight the devastating impact of abortion restrictions and bans, particularly on the health and lives of Black women and other women of color, who are disproportionately harmed by these inhumane and dangerous policies. Abortion restrictions and bans deny pregnant people their human right to reproductive freedom, bodily autonomy, and endanger our health and safety. We can and must do better. #InternationalSafeAbortionDay #AmberThurman #CandiMiller #TrustBlackWomen #SayHerName #SafeAbortionDay #ReproductiveJustice #AbortionIsHealthcare #BansOffOurBodies

Birth control empowers people with reproductive and bodily autonomy. We affirm that access to birth control is a human right, and that no one should be denied the ability to make informed choices about their bodies. For #WorldContraceptionDay, we are proud to spotlight Essential Access Health’s critical role in expanding and protecting access to birth control. Our work includes: 🌼 Conducting cutting edge clinical trials studying the safety, acceptability and efficacy of contraceptives. 🌼 Sponsoring more than 15 bills to expand access to birth control for all, with a focus on reducing barriers to contraception for people with low incomes, those who are uninsured, youth, and people living in areas with health care workforce shortages. 🌼 Supporting equitable, high-quality family planning services alongside our #TitleX provider networks across CA and HI. 🌼 Increasing access to quality contraceptive care through innovative care models, including telehealth. 🌼 Enhancing the health care workforce’s capacity to provide comprehensive, patient-centered contraceptive care. 🌼 Engaging and empowering teens through @TeenSource to raise awareness about birth control and connect teens to services. Despite this incredible progress, more needs to be done to ensure that birth control is affordable and accessible for all. We will continue to work toward a future where everyone, everywhere has access to the contraception they want and need. #WorldContraceptionDay #SexualHealthAwarenessMonth #FreeThePill

The Office of California Governor Gavin Newsom has once again failed California youth by vetoing #SB954, a bill that would have provided free condoms in public high schools amid a growing STI crisis. The Governor’s veto, issued on the eve of #WorldContraceptionDay, is a blatant disregard for the urgent need to protect the health and safety of California youth. Despite securing $5 million in funding and taking other steps to address cost concerns, the Governor chose to block a proven solution that had overwhelming legislative support. We are proud to have championed the YHES Act with teen advocates from across the state. Our fight for youth health equity doesn't end here - we'll continue pushing for the changes that our teens need. #YHES4Condoms #HealthEquity #STICrisis #YouthHealth #CondomAccess #WorldContraceptionDay

This is the first-ever #WorldContraceptionDay with an over-the-counter, daily birth control pill, Opill, available in the United States! Over-the-counter progestin-only birth control pills like Opill can offer some potential benefits for trans, nonbinary, & gender-expansive (TGE) folks: 💊 No estrogen: Some TGE individuals prefer to avoid birth control with estrogen because of possible dysphoric side effects. progestin-only pills do not contain estrogen. 💊 No prescription needed: over-the-counter birth control pills can support greater autonomy and access to contraceptive care without discrimination, stigma and harm that some TGE individuals experience in health care settings. 💊 Do not interfere with testosterone use: over-the-counter progestin-only pills are available to and safe for people of all ages and gender identities. 💊 Can reduce or stop bleeding: Some people experience less bleeding when using progetin-only pills, which can support gender affirmation. Learn more about over-the-counter progestin-only pills for transgender, nonbinary, and gender-expansive (TGE) users in our new fact sheet: https://ow.ly/1ojt50TvLfU Want to learn more about whether TGE folks are interested in using over-the-counter progestin-only pills? Happy #WorldContraceptionDay2024! Celebrated every year on September 26 since 2007, World Contraception Day commemorates the importance of contraception globally. More than 100 countries have access to over-the-counter (OTC) birth control pills, and the United States joined that list earlier this year with the launch of Opill, the first-ever OTC daily birth control pill in the US! Opill is now available on store shelves and online at retailers across the country, making it the most effective type of birth control available without a prescription in the US. This milestone reflects two decades of work by the Free the Pill coalition, a group of researchers, advocates, providers, and others committed to the coalition’s vision of ensuring more equitable access to contraception. Today, we hope you'll join us in spreading the word about Opill, advocating for over-the-counter birth control options to be equitably accessible and fully covered by insurance, and raising your voice in support of the movement to #FreeThePill.
