#ImmigrantStories #GirlsEmpowerment #Intersectionality 🎉 Today, October 11, is International Day of the Girl Child This year's United Nations theme is "Girls' Vision for the Future." As an #immigrant born and raised in #Nigeria, a country with its challenges and expectations for girls, and who has been privileged to step into corporate America, I've navigated a world of both obstacles and opportunities. Every step and stage of a girl's journey presents different barriers, from biased and lower expectations to systemic obstacles. I'm constantly reminded of the immense potential within every girl, especially those facing #intersectional challenges. The UN reports that nearly 1 in 5 girls globally don't complete lower-secondary education, and in low-income countries, 90% of adolescent girls need internet access. These statistics hit close to home, reflecting barriers I've encountered, seen, and heard in my journey. In my work with Immigrants in Corporate (IIC) and EQImindset LLC, I've witnessed how these barriers can linger long into one's career in corporate America. ✴ Today, I want to spotlight three #nonprofit organizations I'm involved with that are empowering girls and shaping their paths because we know the journey doesn't end when they're girls: 🌟 Girls Inc. of San Diego County: By investing in the whole girl at a young age (10-18), we can support them and provide opportunities that supersede their gender, economic and social barriers so they grow up healthy educated and independent. #StrongSmartBold 🌟 Athena STEM Women: Empowering women into STEM leadership through programs that boost confidence and with robust global community backing! 🌟 Immigrants in Corporate (IIC): I started IIC in 2022, inspired by my book on the Immigrant Woman's Experience in Corporate America. For an immigrant woman, gender is a big part of the story, and it started from being young girls. At IIC, we are committed to breaking the stuck cycle for immigrant professionals in the workplace. Join us! As the UN theme suggests, girls have a powerful vision for the future. It's our responsibility to listen, support, and create pathways for their success. When we empower girls, we strengthen families, communities, and economies. How are you supporting the next generation of girls? Together, let's turn girls' visions into reality.
