In recognition of the second annual International Day of Care and Support, please join us for a critical conversation on how global systems of childcare are evolving to benefit society. We’ll discuss how quality childcare contributes to dignified work for childcare workers, positive outcomes for families, and improved development outcomes for children – all of which drive positive social and economic change. Equimundo President and CEO Gary Barker, PhD will speak on a panel alongside USAID's Bama Athreya and Moms First CEO Reshma Saujani, each bringing their deep expertise and insights on the intersection of gender equality, care policy, and economic security. Susannah E Canfield Hurd, MPH, chief strategy officer at Global Health Visions, will moderate the discussion with issue framing from Anna Abelson, MSPH, care expert and GHV engagement manager. Promoting nurturing, equitable, non-violent masculinity since 2011.
About us
Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice is a non-profit organization and a global leader in promoting gender equality and preventing violence by engaging men and boys in partnership with women, girls, and individuals of all gender identities. Since 2011, Equimundo has worked internationally and in the United States to engage men and boys as allies in gender equality, promote healthy manhood and prevent violence. Previously called Promundo-US, our work was founded in 2011 in partnership with Instituto Promundo in Brazil. Our work was born out of community-based and evidence-based work to engage men and boys in gender equality and non-violent manhood in numerous settings in Latin America, Asia, sub-Saharan Africa and North America. After 11 years as Promundo-US we affirmed our mission to take the promise of an intersectional focus on masculinities and social justice to the next level, and changed our name to make clear our focus on masculinities within and always as part of a social justice framework, and to communicate that message to a broader audience of stakeholders.

Great to see this piece out by The Wall Street Journal reporter Rachel Wolfe, on the ways in which U.S. boys feel they're being left behind. "The more that you’re sitting on the couch as opposed to out in the world, your social network gets narrower and then you don’t have the social capital or the skills to step into a job,” says Gary Barker, PhD. “The sense a lot of young men have is not being sure that they are needed or that they are going to be needed by their families, by their communities, by society,” says Richard V. Reeves, president of the American Institute for Boys and Men. Free link here: https://lnkd.in/eCDhDiGX

There are only six weeks until the #GlobalMinisterialConference in Bogota, #Colombia. Join us in urging governments to make bold commitments to end violence against children. The power to stop cycles of violence from generation to generation is in our hands. The Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) commit the global community to end all forms of violence against children. Now, past the halfway point to the 2030 deadline, violence remains a reality for half the world’s children. The first-ever Global Ministerial Conference on Ending Violence Against Children represents an historic moment to re-imagine a world where all children are safe in their homes, schools, communities and online and make commitments to deliver a transformative shift on child protection. This week, Equimundo participated in the United Nations Global Compact's Leaders Summit. Our Deputy Director of Programs, Cody Ragonese, moderated a panel on "Future-proofing Business by Improving Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (#DEI) in the Workplace," infusing our focus on the importance of male allyship for gender equality. "From a human rights and bottom line business perspective, it's crucial for industry leaders, particularly men in positions of power, to publicly and accountably commit to steps that advance gender equitable and inclusive workplaces," says Cody. Others on the panel included Veronica Rossi, who spoke about Lavazza's commitment to training and employing refugees in the workplace; Ayman Ismail, Chairman of UN Global Compact Network Egypt, spoke about his experience as an industry leader in promoting gender equality and DEI in the companies he's managed; Gurpreet Brar of Edelman spoke about his experience on World Economic Forum Partnership for Global LGBTQI+ Equality and ways in which companies can create more inclusive workplaces for LGBTQI+ individuals; and Dino Corell from the International Labour Organization spoke about the importance of creating meaningful work opportunities for persons with disabilities and the value they bring to business. After the panel, Cody and Wessel van den Berg, Equimundo's Senior Advocacy Officer, hosted roundtable conversations with business leaders about the tangible steps they could take to engage their workforces on male engagement. #ForwardFaster2030 #UNGA79

Despite greater recognition of the care economy, gaps persist in care policy advocacy and coordination. We were glad to provide support for the new Global Roadmap for Action on the Care Economy (GRAC), which offers a coordinated global framework mapping the care landscape, its opportunities, and more. Focusing on specific recommendations and existing metrics to highlight care at key global moments, GRAC aims to enable targeted discussion and action to see progress on a global scale by 2030. For so many parents, child care is one of the biggest stressors. And this election season, the high cost of child care is factoring into how families plan to vote in the presidential election. It’s time we see real action to make child care affordable and accessible for everyone—because no family should have to choose between between funding their daycare and feeding their kids. Families depend on it — and they're ready to take action at the ballot box. Read the full article from Abha Bhattarai of The Washington Post here: https://lnkd.in/esmKEvJv

A full house of inspiring voices and bold ideas! ✨ Alongside the #SummitOfTheFuture, our event, Why Feminist Education is Key to Achieving ALL the SDGs, brought together powerful stories, genuine empathy, and transformative ideas! With only six years left to meet the 2030 targets, the urgency of prioritizing feminist education as the key to creating a more just, peaceful, and sustainable world has never been clearer. 📣 From Nila Ibrahimi, an Afghan activist sharing her moving story about the resilience of girls and the challenges of accessing education in her homeland, to Isabelle Rome, Human Rights Ambassador, France Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, emphasizing the need to invest in education that actively counters gender stereotypes, the voices in the room were powerful. Nicole Haberland from the Population Council showed how education, when done right, can challenge harmful norms and improve health, wealth, and autonomy for women and girls. With a passionate call to action, Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, Deputy Executive Director of UN Women, reminded us that we are all born equal in dignity and rights. She urged the room to place non-discrimination at the heart of feminist education, to redistribute power, and to challenge the harmful norms that often use culture or tradition to justify inequality 💪 The conversation doesn’t end here! Let’s continue to push for feminist education as the catalyst for achieving all the #GlobalGoals ✊ Rana Hajjeh JOSE MIGUEL CAMPI-PORTALUPPI (He, Him, Él) Equimundo: Center for Masculinities and Social Justice UNESCO UNICEF
