Last week at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, the EOPSS team, including Undersecretary Gina Kwon and Law Enforcement Advisor Scott Range, convened a task force meeting focused on the safety and security of large venues across Massachusetts. With big events drawing significant crowds, ensuring we’re prepared for any situation is more important than ever. Large Venue Task Force members engaged in a productive conversation about crowd management strategies, emergency response protocols, and the latest technology to enhance venue security. The meeting also included a presentation by former Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Assistant Sheriff Todd Fasulo and Clark County Deputy Fire Chief Billy Samuels about the October 2017 mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival, which resulted in the death of 58 people and injured over 800. This tragic incident required a coordinated multi-agency response and an effective crisis management plan. The presenters shared their experience with activating an incident command structure and offered vital lessons learned from the nation’s deadliest active shooter incident. Working together with experts across different fields and disciplines, we’re taking proactive steps to keep everyone safe. Thank you to our presenters and Task Force meeting participants for their continued collaboration and partnership. #EventSafety #CrowdManagement #SecurityPlanning #PublicSafety #TaskForceMeeting
