ECS builds an active, engaged, & thoughtful citizenry—We Grow Citizens
About us
ECS offers an educational experience that develops students into critical thinkers, thoughtful innovators, and well-rounded scholars. We provide students the tools and educational foundation to become tomorrow’s global citizens. We don’t just teach; we strive to show students how their choices impact the world around them. We value curriculum and culture equally. Most schools have tunnel vision when it comes to program --it all revolves around curriculum choices. Without a strong culture, however, even the best curricular programs will fail. ECS partners authentic culture development with the educational experience. Culture is the foundation for all the work we do. We are rethinking what school “looks like.” We design spaces with students and educators, and create environments that reflect beauty, support health and wellness, and inspire creativity and engagement. We are reinventing the profession. ECS educators are facilitators, collaborators, and creative geniuses. Instead of teaching to the test, ECS educators connect with students where they are, and inspire students to be extraordinary citizens of the world. Along the way, ECS educators are changing the conversation about what it means to be a practitioner of education, and blazing the trail for a new excellence in the profession. Our measures of success support the development of the whole child. ECS knows that children are not defined by a number, or a word (would you want to be labeled “basic?”). In fact, we are working to measure the various ways that students thrive in a learning environment. Our educators are developing ways to gather data around student growth in academic areas, thinking and synthesizing, and socio-emotional. ECS maintains the strong belief that ALL children can THRIVE.

Sending a big, green ECS thank-you to our friends from Boston Green Academy for spending two days learning, exploring, and deep-diving into all things sustainability with us! Last week, we hosted a group of like-minded administrators and educators from BGA, a 6-12 #CharterSchool with a shared mission in a different zip code!🌎 We walked BGA through our approach to out-the-door learning by putting ourselves in the shoes of an ECS student, walking our halls and neighborhoods that enrich the ECS experience. Not only did we walk the walk, but we talked the talk; discussing #ClimateAction and #SustainableDevelopmentGoals, and how these critical topics are weaved into our curriculum and brought to life through experiential learning. Here's to continued collaboration and innovative approaches to #GrowingCitizens 🌱👏

ECS was honored to host Damon Bethea, MA, CDP, Manager, Building for Success in Schools and Life from United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania at our school recently, showcasing the vibrant culture of learning and innovation that thrives here at ECS. 🌟 The awarded grant funds will be a game-changer for our STEM curriculum and activities, supplementing our current offerings in profound ways. At ECS, we believe in showcasing the process of learning, not just the final product. By creating spaces where students can share their evolving ideas, like remiX lab and robotics, we foster a culture of creativity and exploration. With the grant, we'll be able to extend this philosophy further by: 🎨 Bridging connections with art and design; supporting the development of technical skills infused with creativity. 💭 Introduction of design thinking practices to both students and adults; instilling curiosity, optimism, and creative courage in tackling complex problems. 💡Empowerment to bring ideas to life, from ideation to prototyping, all while considering sustainability principles. This access extends beyond the classroom, creating even more opportunity for experiential learning. By aligning with the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we're not just fostering innovation; we're nurturing a generation of global citizens who understand the interconnectedness of the world. With the support of the United Way grant, ECS is poised to empower students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed to shape a brighter, more sustainable future. #STEMEducation #Innovation #UnitedWayGrant #FutureLeaders

Thank you Dr. Cheryl Chase for visiting ECS and sharing her wealth of knowledge about the executive functions of children. 🧠 Last night's program equipped our community with practical strategies for chasing their child's and peer's potential. Kudos to the ECS PCO for providing homemade baked goods for attendees🍪🧁 #GrowingCitizens If you were in the audience, comment below to let our community know what your most valuable takeaway was:
