We love these progress photos of a #DERPriorityProject in Mattapoisett! Construction began last fall to restore 57 acres of former cranberry bogs. Thank you to our dedicated partners Buzzards Bay Coalition and USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service for their hard work on this project!
Soon this last culvert will be removed and replaced with a natural stream channel, completing the Mattapoisett Bogs Restoration Project. The rest of the restored bogs site is greening up beautifully! Kuddos to Commissioner Elizabeth Mahony and her team. The Affordable Housing Decarbonization Program is a concrete example of projects that advance a #JustTransition for all, especially the most vulnerable residents living in affordable and public housing. #EnvironmentalJustice
Massachusetts is setting the standard for climate-resilient affordable housing! Our Affordable Housing Decarbonization Program’s latest $26M investment in five projects will improve air quality, lower energy bills, and enhance comfort in over 600 Massachusetts homes. And we’re not stopping there! Yesterday, at Brian J. Honan Apartments in Allston, the Healey-Driscoll Administration announced an additional $40M to decarbonize affordable housing.

👏 Governor Ned Lamont, Commissioner Katie Scharf Dykes, and Connecticut’s Congressional delegation have announced a $450 million grant from the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to the New England Heat Pump Accelerator Coalition. This coalition, including Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island, will drive the adoption of affordable electric heat pumps across the region. Connecticut’s share, led by the CT Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, is estimated at up to $100 million. This funding will: 🔹 Boost adoption of cold-climate air-source heat pumps, heat pump water heaters, and ground-source heat pumps 🔹 Reduce emissions and improve health outcomes 🔹 Create good-paying careers in HVAC, plumbing, and electrical sectors 🔹 Ensure benefits for underserved communities through the EPA’s Justice40 initiative. Additionally, Connecticut will receive $54 million for zero-emission freight truck infrastructure and $9.4 million for a geothermal heat pump system in New Haven. This is a significant step towards a cleaner, more sustainable future for New England. 📄 For even more on this monumental announcement and award, read the press release: https://lnkd.in/ecryfarN New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Maine Governor's Office of Policy Innovation and the Future Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Rhode Island Office of Energy Resources Maine Governor's Energy Office #HeatPumps #EnergyEfficiency #AffordableEnergy #AirQuality #WorkforceDevelopment #EconomicDevelopment

Thank you to U.S. Department of the Interior Acting Deputy Secretary Laura Daniel Davis for joining us for a tour of America the Beautiful Challenge funding at work in #Massachusetts! In 2022, #MassWildlife was awarded nearly $5M through the America the Beautiful Challenge. This major federal award supports critical landscape-scale conservation + habitat restoration in the Southeastern Massachusetts Pine Barrens. The largest remaining block of Atlantic Coastal Pine Barrens north of New Jersey, the Southeastern Massachusetts Pine Barrens are a global #biodiversity hotspot. They are home to numerous animals and plants, including rare, at-risk species like the prairie warbler, frosted elfin butterfly, and the barrens buckmoth. Through strong partnership with community organizations + the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe, this vital federal funding will support: 🌱 Wetland restoration of a former agricultural cranberry bog + fish passage improvements for river herring + native salter brook trout 🔥 Habitat management of 582 acres of upland habitat with prescribed fire + mechanical techniques 🐢 Restoration of the shoreline of 50 coastal plain ponds that support globally rare species 🤝 Capacity building for habitat restoration led by the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe 🔬 Technical assistance for key landowners + other partners Thank you to those who joined us: A&F Director of Massachusetts Federal Funds & Infrastructure Office (FFIO) Quentin Palfrey, Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs Undersecretary Stephanie Cooper, Massachusetts Department of Fish & Game Commissioner Tom O'Shea, #MassWildlife Deputy Director Eve Schluter, Massachusetts Division of Ecological Restoration Director Beth Lambert, The Trustees of Reservations Ecologist Russ Hopping, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) Grace Bottitta-Williamson, and staff. #AmericatheBeautifulChallenge #LandscapeScaleConservation #Restoration

Im happy to share that over the past few weeks I’ve been participating in The Civic Action Project (CAP) Fellowship program and interning at the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs (EEA). Throughout the programming, we have gained insights about advocacy and strategy from the top policy minds throughout Massachusetts. I have also had the pleasure of meeting 19 other stellar Fellows! My internship at the Office of Environmental Justice & Equity within EEA has also been hugely informative. I have enjoyed learning about the numerous state-led iniatitives advancing climate equity and strengthening community engagement. I am grateful to all the people within the CAP Fellowship team, EEA and NEU who have made this opportunity possible!
