A great example of innovative sustainable financing that benefits people, nature, climate, and economies. Congratulations to Ecuador, The Nature Conservancy, U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, Inter-American Development Bank, Bank of America, and all those involved. #sustainablefinance #fornature #climate #climatefinance #climateaction #finance
Today, The Nature Conservancy is proud to announce the close of another Nature Bonds initiative – our largest yet – with the Republic of Ecuador! This collaboration is expected to unlock approximately $460 million for the conservation of terrestrial and freshwater ecosystems. The Ecuadorian Amazon is an incredibly biodiverse place, home to iconic species like the jaguar, toucan and tree frog. But the ecosystems and people of Ecuador, like the rest of the world, are increasingly vulnerable to the twin crises of biodiversity loss and climate change. The Republic of Ecuador is taking an innovative response to these challenges with a new debt conversion supported by The Nature Conservancy’s Nature Bonds Program, the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation, the Inter-American Development Bank and Bank of America. Expected to unlock approximately $460 million over the next 17 years, the effort will support the Amazon Biocorridor Program, a management model for effectively conserving the Ecuadorian Amazon region, and will: 🌎 Improve the management of 4.6 million hectares of existing protected areas 🌎 Protect an additional 1.8 million hectares of life-giving, climate-mitigating forests and wetlands and 18,000 kilometers of rivers 🌎 Bolster climate resilience 🌎 Support human well-being Co-designed with Indigenous Peoples and Nationalities, the program will support the establishment of new protected areas and the improved management of existing ones, combining local knowledge and scientific evidence to guide strategies that enhance ecological connectivity and resilience. Learn more about this effort, the first of its kind in the Ecuadorian Amazon, and what it means for Ecuador and beyond. ➡ https://lnkd.in/eGu6tTza

Our Land. Our Future 🌍 The 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) is officially underway in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia - a pivotal gathering of nearly 200 nations focused on combating land degradation and building drought resilience. Over the next two weeks, representatives will advance global efforts to deliver the target of reducing degraded lands by 50% by 2040. 📢 Read more https://lnkd.in/ebEDdgRB Why it matters: ⚠️ Land degradation affects 1.5 billion hectares globally, with 100 million more hectares lost each year. 👥 Livelihoods of 3 billion people are at risk, with disproportionate impacts on tropical and low-income regions. 🌱 Restoring land supports food security, health, gender equality, and climate resilience. Key highlights from COP16 (so far) 📑 A newly released report, Planetary Boundaries: Confronting the Global Crisis of Land Degradation 💡 Spotlight on innovative financing mechanisms to unlock public and private capital for land restoration. 🌐 Launch of the Riyadh Global Drought Resilience Initiative and tools like the International Drought Observatory. 🌳 Focus on Nature-Based Solutions, Inclusive Land Governance, Sustainable Farming, and Technology Innovation to drive progress. At Enduring Earth, we are advancing the Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) model to ensure long-term funding for restoring and conserving over 180 million hectares of vital lands globally. This proven approach is designed and implemented through local leadership and sustainable funding to create durable solutions for people and nature. Together, we can reverse the tide of land degradation and nurture a resilient, equitable future. #LandRestoration #ClimateAction #UNCCD #COP16 #Sustainability #EnduringEarth #Resilience #UNited4land #ourlandourfuture #desertification #climate #climateaction ~ United Nations, UN Convention to Combat Desertification, Andrea Meza, Ibrahim Thiaw, The Nature Conservancy, Jennifer Morris, Zdenka Piskulich, Paulina Arroyo, World Wildlife Fund, The Pew Charitable Trusts

🌿 What does it mean when a Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) is 'closed' or 'signed'? It marks a pivotal milestone where partners, stewards, and funders come together to design, negotiate, and agree to nine essential components that form the core of a PFP's long-term success. The PFP model is unique for its single closing agreement, uniting partners under a shared vision, bold ambitions, and an innovative funding framework. By aligning public and private funding sources that typically operate in silos, PFPs unlock transformative change and lay the groundwork for enduring impact. With the recent signing of the Northwest Territories: Our Land for the Future PFP, discover how this approach continues to drive conservation innovation. Join Paulina Arroyo, Enduring Earth's Director of Global Portfolio, as she unpacks the 9 components that are central to every PFP agreement. 👉 Explore more https://lnkd.in/eH7ANcq6 #PFP #SustainableFinance #Finance #Conservation #LocalLeadership #ForNature #ClimateAction #partnership #innovation #future #sustainability #ProjectFinanceForPermanence #NatureBasedSolutions #ClimateFinance #InnovativeFinance #CollaborativeLeadership #FinanceForNature #FutureOfFinance #enduringearth

Exciting news! Today, the Northwest Territories PFP agreement was officially signed, marking an unprecedented, Indigenous-led effort to durably protect 38 million hectares of lands and waters —an area larger than Japan. The initiative, known as NWT: Our Land for the Future, secures CAD$375 million for Indigenous-led conservation, stewardship, and sustainable economic development across the region. This funding will support Indigenous Guardians programs, creating local jobs and enhancing stewardship, climate research, and emergency response. This work is vital in a region warming faster than the global average and recovering from devastating 2023 wildfires. Congratulations to everyone who made this historic milestone possible! #pfp #indigenousleadership #30x30 #canada #sustainablefinance #climate #climateaction
Today, TNC is proud to join local leaders in celebrating NWT: Our Land for the Future, one of the largest Indigenous-led conservation efforts in history. This landmark agreement will provide durable financing to Indigenous governments in the Northwest Territories of Canada, supporting these thriving communities and enabling the stewardship of these lands and waters for generations. The agreement, led by 22 Indigenous Governments, the governments of Canada and the Northwest Territories, and private donors, is set to unlock US$270 million for the protection and stewardship of 38 million hectares of Northwest Territory lands and waters, an area the size of Japan. It will be one of the largest conservation efforts to utilize the Project Finance for Permanence (PFP) model. Indigenous peoples have been vital stewards in safeguarding these lands and waters for millennia. With their leadership, this project is set to preserve biodiversity, protect nature, and benefit communities, with commitments for long-term conservation, stewardship, and community economic development goals identified by Indigenous partners who live there. This project, part of the Enduring Earth partnership, is a testament to “radical collaboration” and the power of scaling up innovative financing models, as well as the transformative impact of Indigenous-led stewardship. We recognize the tireless efforts of Indigenous leaders and their partners and congratulate them on this landmark achievement.
