ECHO Brandon started the day with 16 neighbors waiting outside door. It is tough out there right now. The line was made up of families and senior citizens. All are now being connected to job coaches, resource navigation services, and emergency provisions.

As an Executive Director, my role is to fuel the frontlines. My days are spent on strategy, making connections, fundraising, and caring for our team. But, last night, I found myself back on the frontlines...helping out in our Brandon ECHO Welcome Center. We served a homeless family of 4. While his parents were selecting food and conferring with our Advocate, I had the pleasure of hanging out with their 16 year old son. I found him to be remarkable. He was personable, kind, and hopeful. On the drive home, I couldn't get this kid out of my mind. I felt something well up that I haven't experienced in a long time....heartbreak. Out in the hinterlands of unincorporated Hillsborough County, on a Tuesday night at 6:15 pm, there are currently zero options for a homeless family. Shame on me for working so hard writing grants and making connections that I fail to remember why I entered this line of work in the first place. Shame on us as a community for being ok with a 16 year old kid sleeping in the car with his mom, dad, and little brother. This morning, my heart is broken. But, that is good thing, because seldom does great change happen with out one!

In the warm embrace of the Welcome Center, our neighbor Ray, found a new beginning. His journey, marked by the trials of a harsh divorce and the loss of his job, led him to the brink of despair. Yet, it was the community's spirit by volunteers, staff, and you, that offered Ray a beacon of hope. With the support of our Advocacy Care Team, Ray reclaimed pieces of his identity, an ID, and a Social Security card, the keys to unlocking a brighter future. His perseverance paid off, securing him a full-time job and a place to call home; restoring his stability. Now, with his life's pieces coming together, Ray stands on the threshold of reuniting with his children, a testament to the power of a helping hand in times of need. Let your ECHO be heard by sharing Ray's story, today! #ECHO #ECHOthat #CommunitySupport #Stability #BridgingTheGap
