#EDGEBuildings Country Spotlight: Vietnam We were delighted to join Building Resilience Index in hosting a recent workshop, "U.S.-Vietnam Getting to Net-Zero: Roadmap to Sustainable Industrial Development," organized by IFC - International Finance Corporation in partnership with the U.S. Commercial Service in Ho Chi Minh City and Saigontel. We were proud to have brought such a remarkable group of over 150 representatives from Vietnamese Government officials, associations, universities, key Industrial park developers and manufacturers, along with IFC and U.S. representatives from U.S. Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh, and eight U.S. leading companies including Gensler, Moffat & Nichol International, Sasaki, GE Vernova, Honeywell, Pacifico Energy, UL, and ClimeCo. This event was a unique opportunity to explore the innovative approaches in climate-resilient planning, green energy transition technologies, carbon management solutions, and climate finance solutions driving the sustainable industrial development. Participants gained insights, networking opportunities, and made significant contributions in our collective efforts to foster a greener and more sustainable future. In today's global landscape, designing for an efficient and sustainable built environment is a sought-after skill. The Designing for Greater Efficiency (DfGE) course developed and offered by IFC with the generous support of the Swiss Government's SECO Economic Cooperation and Development, aims to address this need by promoting capacity building related to sustainability in the built environment. By undertaking the DfGE course, students and building design professionals worldwide can develop the expertise to design buildings with a reduced environmental impact. Between November 2021 and November 2024, with SECO funding in Ghana, South Africa, Indonesia, Colombia and Peru, the DfGE course has granted 2,205 in-person certificates and 217 online certificates, and partnered with 59 universities and learning institutions to offer in-person training for students. Additionally, the course has trained 322 faculty members to instruct learners in the fundamentals of green building design. Globally, the DfGE course has issued a total of 6,307 in-person and 1,057 online certificates, trained 444 faculty, and partnered with a total of 92 learning institutions. Globally to date with the help of SECO funding, the EDGE Buildings program has certified 102M square meters of green certified floor space, saving 2.3M tons of CO2 annually.
