Many #SniderHockey & Education alumni are back at college this week! Join us in wishing good luck to our Goals & Assists students as they start or continue their college journey.

The newest Breakaway Scholars participated in an orientation Monday where they learned about the requirements for maintaining the Breakaway Scholarship throughout high school, resources available to Breakaway Scholars at Snider, and what to expect in their first year in the scholarship program.

23 #SniderHockey & Education high school students visited the Wells Fargo Center yesterday, where they heard from sports industry professionals and toured the building. Our students visited every level of the building, including the newly renovated Flyers locker room and media production office. These students were enrolled in Intro to Sports Management at Neumann University, an experience which allowed them to learn about an interesting topic, "test out" a college class, and potentially earn college credits that can be used after high school graduation. Thank you to the Wells Fargo Center, Comcast Spectacor, Philadelphia Flyers, and Flyers Charities for inviting our students to learn about your industry!

Snider students and alumni attended a career visit to INTECH Construction last week! In the morning, our attendees visited INTECH's offices, where they met with staff who work on pre-construction planning, project management, and virtual design and construction, as well as one of INTECH's founders, Craig Sabatino. Representatives from trade unions discussed opportunities with unions, including trading opportunities available tor young adults. Our students visited two construction sites, a life sciences project at 31st and Market and the lower school at William Penn Charter. Throughout the day, INTECH employees shared the educational and professional pathways that led them to their careers. We want to thank INTECH Construction, General Building Contractors Association (GBCA), and Eastern Atlantic States Carpenters Technical Centers for sharing their experience of what it is like to work in the construction industry.

We are proud to announce that Lauren Hart, Anthem Singer for the Philadelphia Flyers is joining the Board of Directors of Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education! Hart on joining the #SniderHockey & Education BOD: "Ed's belief in the power of education and sports, and his creation of a program that teaches hockey and instills values like discipline and teamwork, are a testament to his enduring legacy. I eagerly anticipate the opportunity to share my experiences with Ed Snider, my dad, and the Flyers with our student-athletes, and to honor the profound impact Ed and my dad have had on my life."

We are a 2024 Sports 4 Life grant recipient! The Women's Sports Foundation Sports 4 Life program is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year and we could not be more excited to be a part of this special class of grantees. This national initiative – co-founded by WSF and ESPN in 2014 and supported by Gatorade – utilizes the power of sport to build a solid foundation for Black, African-American, Hispanic and Native American girls to thrive on and off the field of play. We are grateful for their support to continue our work! #Sports4Life

Rising ninth-graders spent the week getting ready for high school at Snider High School Prep Camp at Neumann University! On Tuesday, members of the Snider Board of Directors joined campers at a workshop called "Build Your Personal Brand," which allowed students to reflect on their values and goals, and prepare to meet new people and opportunities during high school. Afterwards, Board Members ate lunch with incoming-9th grade Breakaway Scholars. These conversations centered around the upcoming excitement around high school at partner schools. Students spent the rest of the week taking part in various activities that prepared them for a successful transition to high school, including goal setting activities, extracurricular involvement sessions, financial literacy sessions, and much more! A special thank you to Aaron Greberman, Friend of Snider, for leading a financial literacy activity on Wednesday.
