Our Ecumen North Branch team members noticed that Denny likes to have jobs. He told them it is important for him to have a “purpose” so they worked with him to find ways he could contribute. Focusing on residents’ interests and abilities is a key part of North Branch’s initiative to incorporate a Montessori-based approach to care. This project is made possible by funding through the Minnesota Department of Human Services Nursing Facility Performance-Based Incentive Payment Program (PIPP). You can find more information about how Ecumen is blending the Montessori principles with Ecumen's renowned Awakenings program below. https://lnkd.in/gWJRCZ6z

Mick, a resident at Ecumen Pathstone, is spreading joy throughout the community with his movie collection. By sharing his films with other residents, he’s bringing people together and finding a deeper sense of purpose. This is all made possible through our award-winning Awakenings caregiving model and the Montessori method framework! “Being allowed to choose things for myself and show these movies makes me feel like I’m more a part of the group,” he said. “I like that I’m able to offer something that people like.” Read more about Mick's story below. https://lnkd.in/gU35-ZcB

Working in this field is more than just a job—it's a calling that requires a special set of attributes. Patience, compassion, and empathy are at the heart of what we do, as we provide care and support to those who have given so much throughout their lives. It’s about being a good listener and having the ability to stay calm and positive even in all types of situations. Caregiving means honoring each person’s dignity, recognizing their unique needs, and offering comfort and companionship. While degrees and experience are important, it’s these qualities that truly make a difference in the lives of those we care for. Hear directly from our team members as they explain what it takes to work with Ecumen. I am very fortunate to walk into a job I love, and to have a chance to get to know so many residents and staff. There can be external and internal distractions that take up gobs of time….. plant problems, surveys, legislative and regulatory changes, staffing, self doubt, strategy changes, on and on… However! There are moments when I get jerked back into touch with the residents and people we serve every day. These moments, sometimes very simple moments, can energize me so much. —— A really great, interactive resident family gathering… an hour listening to a tenant tell me how we should grade our next parking lot, that leads to shoveling out a culvert drain… when I pop in to see a resident I haven’t talked to in a bit, to check to see how they are doing, crack them up and get a fist bump… learning about St. Ben’s history… or to connect and help guide staff going through a difficult time… —— Don’t forget why you chose to do what you do. Time off of work at home is needed, but time spent re-grounding yourself with people around you at work can be so rewarding.

As part of a new initiative, Ecumen North Branch is one of three Ecumen communities implementing an innovative program based on the “Montessori method,” emphasizing residents’ interests and abilities rather than their limitations. One of the core principles of the “Montessori method” is to provide residents with a “sense of purpose.” Ecumen North Branch resident, Diane, has embraced this principle, taking on responsibilities that allow her to make a positive difference in her community. This project is made possible by funding through the Minnesota Department of Human Services Nursing Facility Performance-Based Incentive Payment Program (PIPP). You can find more information about how Ecumen is blending the Montessori principles with Ecumen's renowned Awakenings program below. https://lnkd.in/g25UvNqk

Last Wednesday, Ecumen hosted another incredible event, marking our 4th food show in collaboration with Linkage, our GPO for food and supplies, and Sysco MN. The day kicked off with a review of our spending opportunities and an overview of the impressive rebates our sites have earned. In 2023 alone, our dining leaders saved a remarkable $220,000 by utilizing our preferred products and vendors. And 2024 is shaping up to be even better, with the team already on track to save $250,000! The highlight of the day? A group activity that put our dining leaders' culinary skills to the test—a food challenge! Split into teams of 4-5, they created an entrée and dessert using new items stocked by Sysco. The creativity and talent on display were outstanding, with all teams receiving well-deserved recognition for their efforts in both plate presentation and taste. Sysco also treated us to a mini-food show, giving our team members the chance to discover new products and explore innovative uses for existing ones. We were thrilled to have 23 of our dedicated dining team members join us for the day. Your commitment and enthusiasm truly made this event special! Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to making this event a success!
