The Early Employees Community

About us

Early Builders is a community of generalist early employees in early-stage startups gathering together Founder Associates, Chiefs of Staff and 1st Ops. As generalist early employees, we resonate with the distinct challenges of wearing multiple hats in budding ventures. While these roles are gaining traction among next-gen talents, existing communities do not exactly meet our specific needs (Chief of Staff in mature scaleups or interns spending limited time in startups). That's where we step in. Our goals? Facilitate knowledge exchange, broaden networks, enhance skills through tailored events, foster camaraderie with social gatherings, and elevate the understanding of the impact our roles make in the startup scene.

🎢 Early Employees: What it takes to scale a unicorn startup ✨ Last week, we had the privilege of hosting an inspiring event featuring two early employees from fast-growing startups that achieved unicorn status 🦄. Many thanks to Nicolas Sitter, ex-Product & Data Director at Ankorstore, and Tania Kefs, ex-VP Customer Success at Aircall, who shared their incredible journeys and invaluable insights. And to 50 Partners for hosting the conference! ✨ 🔑 Key Takeaways from the Event: 1️⃣ Take decisive action The startup environment is constantly changing, requiring quick and decisive actions. As Tania put it, "There's always a fire somewhere, so you have to take action." 🎙️ 2️⃣ Manage chaos and focus Nicolas emphasized the importance of managing chaos and maintaining focus: "You have to know how to manage chaos; things change a lot. You really have to get things done and see things through." 🎙️ 3️⃣ Embrace recruitment challenges During the scaling period, recruitment becomes a primary focus. Nicolas shared, "We spent 60% of our time recruiting. We were basically recruiters for a year." 🎙️ 4️⃣ Build without ego Tania highlighted the need for humility and speed: "You can't have an ego, you have to move quickly, and sometimes it's better to make a bad decision than no decision at all." 🎙️ 5️⃣ Leverage early employee advantage Nicolas noted the unique position of early employees: "When you’re the first in the company, you are the company. It’s a huge advantage in all functions." 🎙️ The event was a fantastic opportunity to learn from those who have been at the forefront of building unicorns. Thanks to everyone who attended! cc Aïda M. 🌟 Meet our speakers from French unicorns: Aircall and Ankorstore Tomorrow on May 22nd, we are excited to welcome 2 former early employees from successful fast-growing startups that became unicorns 🦄 Nicolas Sitter, ex-Product & Data Director at Ankorstore Employee #2 After finishing business school, Nicolas gained experience in both startups and large companies. In 2018, he joined papernest to build their acquisition department and later moved to JobTeaser as Head of Growth. In 2019, after Ankorstore closed their Seed round, the founders hired him as employee #2. He was then promoted several times, ultimately becoming Product & Data Director. Tania Kefs, ex-VP Customer Success at Aircall Employee #1 In 2015, after finishing business school, Tania initially applied to join e-founders (Hexa) as Associate. After a few interviews, she ended up joining Aircall, one of e-founders' first ventures, as employee #1. At Aircall, she was promoted several times, ultimately becoming VP of Customer Success. She left at the end of 2019 to launch her own venture, Jurnee, an all-in-one platform to book and plan corporate events. See you tomorrow!

Introducing our first workshop - exclusively for the Early Builders community members! Last week, we had the pleasure to host a workshop about building #Partnerships. Thank you to our experts Robin Dohin, Head of Partnerships from Qonto and Hippolyte Thibierge, Partnerships Manager from Hero and cofounder of Partnershift - Partnership Community for sharing their precious insights with our community, in a small-group format. 🌟 Our top 5 key takeaways for early-stage builders crafting their first partnership strategy in startups: 1️⃣ Start with the "low-hanging fruits": building partnerships doesn't always have to start with the biggest players. By starting small first, we can secure quick wins and lay out solid foundations for future growth. 2️⃣ Mutual understanding is key: the core of any successful partnership lies in a deep understanding of each other's needs and desires. A strong discovery is essential in order to adapt the value proposition and ensure mutual benefit on the long end. 3️⃣ Flexibility first: partnerships evolve and our approach to it should to. Whether you’re starting with informal agreements or progressing towards more complex business deals, flexibility is essential. 4️⃣ Nurture relationships: always put trust as a priority. Long term relationships will only be built on mutual respect and reliability. 5️⃣ Continuous improvement: the journey doesn't end once a partnership is established. Regular reviews and adjustments are key to a successfull collaboration. Thanks Pivot for hosting this event. We can’t wait for the next workshop!
