About us
At dwg., we take great pride in seeing our work positively impacting the health and vitality of the communities, environments and economies around them. We envision a world where creativity leads great social and environmental change. Our work simultaneously celebrates an authentic sense of place while working toward an economically equitable, environmentally conscious and sustainable future. Recognizing the potential for urban architectural landscapes to encourage social and environmental change, dwg. was established in 2010 to create forward-thinking design solutions that promote healthier and more resilient communities. Our firm is passionate about urbanism, targeting our efforts at projects within high-growth urban areas. This results in a wide range of expertise including on-grade and on-structure landscape design, adaptive reuse, green infrastructure, public art installations, and urban design. We are leaders in sustainable design and low-impact development. Our award-winning, transformative landscapes are the product of careful analysis of the project’s opportunities and constraints, as well as the thoughtful implementation of sustainable strategies appropriate to each specific site. By fusing urban design principles with architectural form and the natural environment, we create innovative designs that are environmentally responsive, tactile, modern, and artfully composed. Our work enhances the built environment through the creation of engaging and meaningful places that connect to natural processes.

We are honored and excited to announce that St. John Encampment Commons has won the prestigious Urban Land Institute Austin Impact Award for Best Public Place. This recognition is a testament to the dedication and vision behind this project that transformed a former mall parking lot into 2.4-acre urban park that serves as a gateway to the ACC Highland Campus. St. John Encampment Commons was designed to honor the site’s rich history, which dates back to the late 19th century when the land was used by the St. John Baptist Association, an African American community, for annual gatherings and educational purposes. The award-winning design epitomizes the adaptive reuse of urban spaces, demonstrating how public realms can be reimagined to serve modern needs while preserving historical significance. In advance of St. John Encampment Commons being recognized as a double finalist in tonight's ULI Austin Impact Awards for Best Project Innovation & Best Public Space, please check out designvsbuild's short film, "Parking Lots to Parks | A Documentary About Adaptive Reuse." "Can a defunct shopping mall become a place of learning and community gathering? The leadership at Austin Community College thought so, but not without the right team. This short documentary explores the revitalization of the Highland Mall into a community college and parks, but the story of this plot of land north of Austin is also about recovering 100 years of history that was almost forgotten. See how the school and architectural team replace parking lots with parks and consumerism with education." Have you checked out our latest sculpture on Congress Avenue? The custom sculpture was designed by dwg. for David Kahn to create a picture-perfect spot at “Main and Main” on Congress Avenue, within the podium of our latest patio at the base of the Scarbrough Building. The wording of this highly abstract and cubic piece was purposely designed to be viewed from only one specific point on the sidewalk — framed by the iconic Littlefield Building across the Avenue. Initiated by dwg. in 2010, the pocket patios are social experiments designed to liberate the public realm from outdated auto-dominated policies and create artistic spaces that celebrate pedestrian priority. The patios demonstrate remarkable social, environmental and economic transformations.

Happy Doggo was started in 2021 by Niall Harbison with the simple act of feeding a few hungry street dogs on Sunday mornings. But this small kindness captivated the hearts of people all over the world and was the catalyst for a much bigger movement. dwg. is so proud to be collaborating with Danny Forster & Architecture and the rest of this amazing team to bring Niall's vision to life -- creating a new sanctuary in Thailand for the sick and most vulnerable dogs to recuperate. @Moso Studio
