📣 Thrilled to Share Insights at the 2024 NWBCA! 📣
Last week, Aaron Rhodes, Maxx Garrett, and I had the privilege of speaking at the 2024 Northwest Baseball Coaches Association (NWBCA) event on behalf of Driveline Baseball, where an unexpected turn of events led us to present on the main stage, with just a 30-minute heads-up! This last-minute change set the stage for an even more impactful session in front of a larger group.
🔍 Topic Deep Dive: "Building an Effective Velocity Program":
In my talk, I explored the intricacies of creating a robust velocity program for pitchers. Our focus was on arm fitness, the careful scaling of intensity, and prioritizing athlete health above all. We unpacked the critical phases of training, from the initial on-ramp to the nuanced velocity phase, each tailored to enhance performance sustainably.
💡 Essential Highlights:
- Emphasizing structured training phases for consistent performance improvement.
- Effectively utilizing tools like PlyoCare balls and overload/underload baseballs for targeted training benefits.
- The pivotal role of recovery, including nutrition and sleep, in an athlete's regimen.
- Leveraging data-driven tools like pulse sensors to tailor and optimize training volume and intensity.
- Exploring biomechanical research findings on torque values in shoulder and elbow joints with various throwing weights, guiding our training approach to minimize injury risks and promote arm health through a data-driven methodology.
💬 Community Engagement:
The response and interaction from the coaching community was great to see. It highlighted our shared commitment to evolving baseball coaching and prioritizing athlete well-being.
🙏 A Big Thank You:
Kudos to the NWBCA for allowing us the opportunity to present at this year's event, and the coaches for showing their openness to learning and growing the game. This was my third year at this event, and I truly appreciate all of the efforts made by the folks with the NWBCA in supporting coaches and promoting baseball in the Northwest.
Excited for future opportunities to share knowledge and collaborate in advancing baseball coaching and athlete development!
