For our #ThankfulThursday post, we want to take a moment to THANK EVERYONE involved in our record-breaking Step Up for Down Syndrome Golf Tournament on Monday! TOGETHER, we raised $371,279 in support of our mission and the families we serve! 🙌 Without our sponsors, golfers and volunteers, we wouldn't be able to provide life-changing support and services to people with Down syndrome of ALL ages! Truly, #TogetherWeMakeAnImpact on the people we serve—past, present and future—in countless ways! THANK YOU! #PhilanthropyChangesLives #MissionDriven #LifespanPartnerForPeopleWithDownSyndrome

It's #DownSyndromeAwarenessMonth 💙💛 As the life expectancy of people with Down syndrome has increased over the last few decades, there are some unfortunate challenges associated with aging for our community – including Alzheimer’s disease. In fact, Alzheimer’s disease impacts close to 90% of people with Down syndrome, with the average age of diagnosis around 50 years of age (according to research by KU Alzheimer's Disease Research Center/KU ADRC). 💡 This is why we've partnered with KU ADRC, an NIH Center of Excellence, to spread the word about the clinical programs, research studies, and clinical trials they have available specifically for people with Down syndrome. Learn more here: https://kuadrc.org/DSI ➡️ We are also co-hosting a Caregiver Education Seminar on Tuesday, Oct. 29th, at our office! Attendees will learn about the increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease in people with Down syndrome, including the reasons why they are at such a high risk. Additionally, we will discuss current and future treatment options. Followed by a Q & A session. Be sure to register here: https://lnkd.in/g2xdbu64 before spots fill up! ✅ #MissionDriven #TogetherWeChangeLives #KnowledgeIsPower #FindACureForAlzheimers

October 1st is the start of #DownSyndromeAwarenessMonth 💙💛 In order to create understanding, we have to grow awareness! Here is an interesting fact: researchers know that #DownSyndrome is caused by an extra chromosome, but no one knows for sure why it occurs or how many different factors play a role. One factor that is known to increase the risk for having a baby with Down syndrome is the mother’s age. Be sure to share this video to build awareness and watch for more facts throughout the month! It’s not every day we have someone from another country visit us to learn more about the services and supports we provide! What an honor to have Anne, from Kenya, spend time with our entire team today! She is making a difference as the executive director of her nonprofit, CHDF! Truly, this is the definition of #TogetherWeMakeAnImpact ❤️ #MissionDriven #ChangingLives
🇰🇪🌎 What an honor to host Anne Njeri, Executive Director of CHDF of Kenya, at Down Syndrome Innovations today! Our entire team was bursting with enthusiasm and resources in support of Anne, and she was so humble and grateful as she shared her expertise and incredible story with us. She is an advocate and champion for children and adults with disabilities in Kenya, which makes all of us deeply proud. We hope our tools and resources will enable her to take her services to the next level back home, but who she is and what she is already doing now is absolutely wonderful! Asante sana kabisa (thank you very much), Anne!
