Despite investments in biomedical research producing astonishing advances in in the diagnosis and treatment of human illnesses, health outcomes in the United States remain stubbornly below what they should be. We need stronger pathways for incentivizing and applying research to prevent disease and improve health outcomes. The Collective to Strengthen Pathways for Health Research — a joint effort of Doris Duke Foundation, the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Burroughs Wellcome Fund, Dana Foundation, The Donaghue Foundation, the Robertson Foundation and Susan G. Komen — seeks to improve prevention and care, and invites the research community to help define an actionable blueprint for progress. What are the research priorities, incentive structures, and missed opportunities for innovation that hold the greatest potential to prevent disease or improve health outcomes from clinical encounters? Together, we will elevate voices and ideas. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eGFKerDA

Fantastic launch event for the new Climate Data Collaborative, a new mechanism for public-private collaboration and coordination on improving the data, tools, and access to the information that can unlock #ClimateAmbition and #ClimateAction. Really proud that Doris Duke Foundation is a lead partner to the Collaborative! #ClimateWeekNYC #Forests4Climate
Today the Data Foundation announced the launch of the new Climate Data Collaborative in our #ClimateWeekNYC event, in partnership with the Doris Duke Foundation. Thank you to Sam Gill & Sacha Spector from Doris Duke for kicking off the event, and for Ali Zaidi, President Biden's Climate Advisor for acknowledging the critical role of #data in addressing climate issues & data needs moving forward. Today we also launched a new partnership with Crosswalk Labs & Jason Burnett, providing neighborhood level CO2 emissions data, now available as #open data at open.crosswalk.io. Learn more about the Data Foundation's Climate Data Collaborative at https://lnkd.in/dfdvjCYu! Thank you to our entire team who supported the events this week and to all who work to create or make date useful for our decision-makers. #ClimateWeek24 #climateweek #openscience #evidencebased #sciencebased

NYC Climate Week continues to be a tremendous success! A heartfelt thank you to the Doris Duke Foundation for co-hosting such a thought-provoking reception with us on Indigenous Futures. It was inspiring to hear how Indigenous art and storytelling—portrayed by artist Cannupa Hanska Luger, whose photography is featured on the cover of this National Geographic publication—can evoke powerful emotions and drive action to protect our planet. This perfectly aligns with the National Geographic Society's vision of using storytelling to ignite passion and inspire meaningful action. Research across various fields consistently shows that stories have the power to break down barriers, simplify complex ideas, change behaviors, and promote social change. What a great end to the week! Excited and proud to host the Data Foundation and Ali Zaidi for the launch of the new Climate Data Collaborative at the Doris Duke Foundation #Treehouse this morning! This new initiative will build public-private cooperation to address the critical need for reliable, standardized data to quantify and verify climate mitigation activities across the United States. The Climate Data Collaborative will convene policymakers, investors, researchers, and other stakeholders to develop open-source greenhouse gas (GHG) protocols, data standards, and analytical tools. By improving the quality and accessibility of climate data, the CDC aims to empower decision-makers at all levels to take more effective climate action. David J. New Jersey's climate leadership was in full force last week as we gathered for a Leaders' Reception at Duke Farms to drive action on sustainability and climate resilience. As we begin Climate Week in NYC, it’s time to ask—where is New Jersey’s own Climate Week? The momentum and collaboration we saw at this gathering is a powerful starting point. Together, we have the expertise, the innovation, and the determination to not just meet, but exceed our climate goals. From electrifying everything at Duke Farms to advancing carbon sequestration research, we are operationalizing solutions to cut emissions and restore nature. But it will take all of us—across sectors and communities—to truly lead the way. It was an honor to host an inspiring group of leaders who are moving the needle on these critical issues: #NJBPU: President Christine Guhl-Sadovy, Commissioner Dr. Zenon Christodoulo #NJLegislature: Senator Linda Greenstein and Assemblywoman Shavonda Sumter #NJDEP: Katie Angarone, Chief Strategy Officer Somerset County, NJ: Commissioner Paul Drake, William Aman, Chair of the Energy Commission PSEG: Dawn Neville, Manager of Electric Transportation Somerset County, NJ Taft Communications, #AmericanLittoralSociety, PPAG, Gabel Associates, Inc., #SustainableJersey, #NJFuture, #NewJerseySustainableBusinessCouncil, Lubot Strategies, #LotusClimateSolutions, #NJPublicHealthAssociation, New Jersey Conservation Foundation, #USEnergyFoundation, #EnvironmentNewJersey, #DaveyResourceGroup, Stevens & Lee Public Affairs, Raritan Headwaters Association, #NJLCV, #BRSInc, #SustainablePrinceton, #WatershedInstitute Let’s continue to work together and show the world how New Jersey gets the job done. 🌱⚡ #NJClimateLeadership #ClimateAction #Sustainability #Collaboration #CarbonNegative #NaturePositive #LeadershipInAction #DukeFarms

Creating a path to resilient, healthy forests in an era of accelerating climate change takes all of our collective knowledge, wisdom, and effort. Indigenous Knowledge (IK), developed and held by the original stewards of the land, can vitally inform climate resilience across cultural boundaries and there's huge progress being made here in the U.S. to expand and institutionalize IK on public and tribal lands alike. So I'm incredibly honored to be moderating a #ClimateWeekNYC panel today of three incredible leaders, spotlighting new guidance on #braidingknowledge for climate resilient forestry and work by Tribes and the US Government put it all into practice! September is Kinship Care Month. This month, we celebrate all the relatives, close family and friends who are caring for children. The Biden administration recently announced new administrative actions that will incentivize jurisdictions throughout the United States to do more to ensure children who need to can live with kin. Forests are an essential part of any path to meeting national climate goals in the United States, and there's so much momentum here to be excited about – including that an overwhelming, bipartisan majority of the American people support investing in farmers and forest owners to expand #NaturalClimateSolutions. But it's time to get serious about delivering on the full promise of #Forests4Climate. It's time for a #ForestMoonshot that activates the whole forest sector at the scale we need to ensure a safe climate future for ourselves and the forests themselves. Check out my vision, out today on Ecosystem Marketplace, for a climate-smart moonshot for forests in the U.S. that encompasses protection, restoration, and improved management for climate and biodiversity outcomes. By shifting tens of millions of acres into more resilient and biodiverse forest ecosystems, we can increase our forests’ ability to absorb carbon by 70 percent and help the nation meet our 2030 and midcentury net-zero targets. I don't know how to get there, but I know together we can. #ItsTime #ClimateWeekNYC Jad Daley Kevin O'Hara Tim Christophersen Julia (Osterman) Strong Alexia Kelly Climate Advisers Rita Hite Sean Penrith Nathan Truitt Alexandra A.
