DLR Group reposted this
"Transforming San Quentin is a personal ambition of California Governor Gavin Newsom. Our work on a new campus within the prison's secure perimeter marks the first step towards realising the Governor’s vision of a prison system inspired by the Nordic model, with a clear focus on rehabilitation and reintegration. We’re extreemly proud to be part of this project and the collaboration with CDCR and the Governor’s Office." – Sanne Wall-Gremstrup, CEO and Partner in Schmidt Hammer Lassen. In March of 2023, Californian Governor, Gavin Newsom, announced a new vision for one of the US''s most notorious prisons, the San Quentin Prison – today, San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. The Governor’s Advisory Council in association with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) and Vanir Design-Build Program Services commenced this ambitious and transformational project. We’re proud to be partnering with McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and DLR Group in designing a new educational and vocational centre to provide educational treatment for San Quentin Correctional Treatment Facility residents. The governor intends to make San Quentin a model for corrections in California and a world-class example of education and rehabilitation known as the California Model. Inspired by the Nordic Model of Corrections, The California Model is founded in a therapeutic residential treatment model reflective of a culture of care in a safe and secure environment leading to better outcomes for those involved. Drawing on our extensive experience designing learning environments and libraries worldwide and our experience with the Nuuk Rehabilitation Facility, our design concept for the campus at San Quentin embodies the project’s vision and aspirations while presenting a clear path forward for a transformed future on the San Quentin campus. The campus’s core identity is founded on the principles of openness, a harmonious connection with nature, the surrounding environment, and the broader SQ site, integrating both indoor and outdoor spaces that offer a diverse array of areas for people to occupy and enjoy. At the heart of this vision lies a commitment to enhancing well-being. “We are extremely proud of being involved in this truly transformational endeavour. It’s a unique project combining lofty aspirations and deep meaningfulness with a vision to foster and support a sense of community and belonging. We are eagerly anticipating construction to begin shortly,” says Sanne Wall-Gremstrup. Athletic Business examines the impact of video boards on stadium #design and the #fanexperience, and why it was a priority in our work for University of Houston Athletics: https://lnkd.in/gxdqahDy While upgrades to #TDECU stadium will continue through August 2025, “it was imperative that [University of Houston] didn’t lose their scoreboard for a year. It was important that the stadium stay in use … so we could have a football season,” says Principal and Global Sports Leader Don Barnum, AIA.
