🌿🏗️ Yesterday, we celebrated a big milestone in the development of our new Nature Museum: The Topping Out Ceremony! Discovery Place Board of Trustees members, local officials and construction workers signed a beam that was then installed at the top of the structure's framework, representing the conclusion of the structural framework for the Museum. Construction has moved steadily along on the new world-class nature haven in the heart of Freedom Park. The Museum is anticipated to open in 2026. “We are thrilled to mark this important milestone in the construction of a new Nature Museum for our community and the Carolinas,” said Catherine Wilson Horne, Discovery Place President and CEO. “Together with our partners in Mecklenburg County, Rodgers Builders, Liollio Architecture, Hood Design Studio and more, we look forward to seeing this nature destination that will offer hands-on learning for generations to come.”

🚀 Exciting news! Discovery Place has been awarded a NASA Community Anchor grant to expand access to STEM and space learning. Discovery Place is one of 13 institutions nationwide to share the $510,000 in NASA Community Anchor Award funds. In celebration of this award, Discovery Place will launch NASA Community Space Stations, a series of STEM learning opportunities with community partners across the greater Charlotte region. https://lnkd.in/ectVg_7H

🌿 As we celebrate 77 years of serving the greater Charlotte community, we are excited to share this look to the future as a new Nature Museum takes shape in the heart of Freedom Park! Projects have included underground sewer work, building footings and the main retaining wall. 🐵 Coming soon! Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute and UN Messenger of Peace, braved the unknown to give the world a remarkable window into humankind's closest living relatives: chimpanzees. Get a look into her life and work with our newest exhibition, 𝘽𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙅𝙖𝙣𝙚: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙧. 𝙅𝙖𝙣𝙚 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙡𝙡, opening Saturday, November 16 at Discovery Place Science. In this hands-on, transportive multimedia exhibition celebrating her extraordinary life and work, visitors will explore Dr. Goodall’s early years through iconic images and multimedia experiences. Venture on an immersive projection of Tanzania’s Gombe National Park where she did her famous behavioral research on chimpanzees. Visitors will also see a life-size hologram of Dr. Goodall, enter a replica of her research tent and learn about her current role as a leader in community-centered conservation and youth empowerment. Plus, visitors can find out what they can do to make a positive impact in the world. 𝘽𝙚𝙘𝙤𝙢𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙅𝙖𝙣𝙚: 𝙏𝙝𝙚 𝙀𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙛 𝘿𝙧. 𝙅𝙖𝙣𝙚 𝙂𝙤𝙤𝙙𝙖𝙡𝙡 is organized and traveled by the National Geographic Society in partnership with the Jane Goodall Institute.

We are excited to announce that we've recently welcomed our new Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) Rachel Cusick and are glad to have her on the Discovery Place team! Rachel has more than 20 years’ experience in fundraising and achieved record contributed revenue in her previous roles with California Academy of Sciences, OLE Health in Napa and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sonoma Valley, CA. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from University of California, Irvine and MPA from the University of San Francisco. We are excited for the contributions Rachel will bring to Discovery Place.
