Our thoughts are with all of those who have been impacted by Hurricane Helene, the Georgia Biolab explosion, and the incoming Hurricane Milton. Our immediate concern is for the safety and survival of all those in impacted areas, particularly disabled people who experience greater barriers to evacuation and accessing shelters. If you need assistance, please contact The Partnership for Inclusive Disaster Strategies Disability & Disaster Hotline at 800.626.4959 (call/text, hablamos español). We are also monitoring and sharing updates on voting access in the impacted Southern States. This is what we know so far: Florida: Florida voting rights groups have filed a motion trying to extend the voter registration deadline. While information is still developing on Hurricane Milton, Gov. Desantis issued an executive order authorizing election changes in 13 counties recovering from Hurricane Helene. It allows supervisors of elections to make changes to early voting sites and loosens restrictions on requests for mail-in ballots. Contact your supervisor of elections for more information on these changes: https://lnkd.in/dF_BD3F Georgia: Three voting rights groups are asking a federal judge to order the state to reopen voter registration. If you are displaced, you can request an absentee ballot to be delivered to a new location. Find tips for voting in the 2024 general election after Helene, a list of precinct changes, and news on the Georgia Secretary of State's website. https://lnkd.in/e7mqp4pv North Carolina: Voters in 13 counties in Western North Carolina will be able to request and receive absentee ballots in person until Monday, November 4. They will be able to drop off ballots at any county board of elections in the state or any polling place in their county. Voters who reside in these counties will have their ballots counted if received by 7:30 PM ET on Election Day. Check with your local county board for any changes in voting hours, schedules, and locations. More information: https://lnkd.in/dTMKJQ4b South Carolina: The state voter registration deadline has been extended by one week to Monday, October 14. Emmy nominated, former New York City Council candidate, advocate with a focus on labor and disability issues
There’s been an unfortunate change to tonight’s event and the space is no longer ADA accessible. Accessibility and COVID safety are very important to Disability Victory and we will no longer be able to attend tonight’s event. We appreciate everyone’s support and will be in touch about future events.

Join Disability Victory, New Disabled South Rising, and Disability Culture Lab Action for the Inaugural Disability Power Fundraiser on Thursday, September 26, 2024! This event offers a unique opportunity to learn about these organizations' transformative work to amplify the voices of disabled folks, who represent 1/4 of the U.S. population. In the wake of the largest mass-disabling event since the Vietnam War due to Long Covid, we are at a critical moment for building the political power of the disability community. The upcoming election presents a historic opportunity to shift hearts, minds, and power around disability. Our goal is to build the political power of the disability community by supporting a network of influential organizations that can train, organize, communicate, and shape the national narrative on disability justice.
