James Fu started as an engineering major in 2014. Ten years later, he’s engineering flavors at Din Tai Fung Restaurant Group . 🥟🥢 Fu graduated from CPP in 2018 with a degree in hospitality management from The Collins College, ranked the No. 6 hospitality management school in the world by CEO Magazine. While originally starting off as an engineering major, he found that he didn’t have the same passion for STEM as he did when helping at his grandma’s restaurants. He used his culinary background to excel working at CPP’s student-run The Restaurant At Kellogg Ranch (RKR) and as a teaching assistant in Jones’ Wines of the World advanced course. Fu now works as the corporate chef at global chain Din Tai Fung, traveling to various locations around the country to audit food quality and assist with opening new restaurants. He still gives back to CPP, participating in career fairs and volunteering to serve as professors for a day. He credits the RKR with helping him get to his current level of success. “I still implement a lot of the knowledge I learned at Collins today.” - Fu Read more about Broncos on the Rise: https://bit.ly/3YrVoaY Read more about the Collins College No. 6 ranking: https://bit.ly/4dorbO5

  • Yesterday, our Anaheim store team members participated in the CHOC Walk CHOC Foundation to raise funds for children's health and well-being. This unique experience at Disneyland Resort unites the community in a meaningful and inspiring walk through the two theme parks. The CHOC Foundation provides exceptional medical care to children, advances pediatric health through innovative research, and offers comprehensive support programs for patients and their families. • At last, our doors are officially open in the Big Apple! 🎉 Today, July 18, we proudly opened our first restaurant in New York. Taking up the entire lower level of Paramount Plaza, our new location is designed to evoke the feeling of descending into a traditional Chinese garden. This is one of the largest restaurants in New York City, seating 450 in the heart of the Theater District! A special thanks to our incredible team and partners, Rockwell Group and Paramount Group, for making this exciting day possible. We were honored to have CEO of DTF Global, Warren Yang, present for this milestone event. In a city renowned for culinary excellence, we are excited to join the community and look forward to sharing the art of Xiao Long Bao—our meticulously crafted soup dumplings—with our guests.

It’s our last month in New York, so I guess it’s fitting that I wrote my first ever article for New York Magazine. It’s about one of my favorite restaurants in the world, Din Tai Fung, which is finally opening here in a few weeks. We have eaten at Din Tai Fung restaurants in Taipei, Tokyo, Shanghai, Los Angeles and Seattle, so it feels somehow perfect that we’ll now get to have one of our last meals in New York in their new space. The article link is in comments, also in the next print issue. I’ve been a subscriber for 23 years, and this will be the last issue that we’ll receive to our home in Brooklyn, and the first with my byline in it.
