Te Tiriti o Waitangi is an inclusive agreement for all New Zealanders. Today, and everyday, we work to give effect to this agreement. In the 2024 State of the Community Sector survey, the vast majority of community organisations see Te Tiriti as foundational and important in how they operate. We are proud to be part of a new Community Constellation of peak body and community infrastructure groups committed to giving effect to Te Tiriti in the way we work together for a community-powered Aotearoa. Today we're releasing a special episode of techbytes.nz. A year ago I chatted with Lee Timutimu about his life and career but since then he's been involved in working to get an affordable, fast internet connection service up and running. This is important mahi for our country as more and more life is online and we risk excluding many more people from services due to affordability. In this episode I talk with Lee through his motivation, the challenges, how it will actually work and then how we can help him make this a reality. Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/gAGsjNxW Or look out for it on any of your audio podcast channels.

"Marginalised communities stand to lose the most in terms of AI because at the moment, AI is largely being trained without indigenous perspectives. We simply aren’t being included in a lot of the LLMs (the data that systems like ChatGPT draw on) because we haven’t claimed our seat at the table. These are conversations and discussions that will have a global impact, so we need a voice at the table." With the government shifting its focus away from complex social issues, the digital divide in Aotearoa remains a critical challenge. Our latest blog highlights the need to change the narrative—from focusing on the impacts of this divide to emphasising the real-world benefits of closing it, such as better education, improved healthcare, and greater economic opportunities. Inspiring and uplifting Aotearoa NZ towards digital excellence and tech pathways for everyone through community partnerships and innovation
It has been great to come into Microsoft and play a small part in this ongoing partnership alongside great and passionate people at Telstra and Good Things Australia to look at the intersect of digital inclusion and AI literacy. There are some key findings in this report that equally apply to Aotearoa New Zealand as we also as a country look to ensure AI is for good and that we continue to work together to help those most at risk of barriers and exclusion to close the digital divide and strive for digital excellence for all. #digitalequity #aiskills #aiforgood Digital Equity Coalition Aotearoa (DECA)

The not-for-profit sector in Aotearoa New Zealand is facing a funding crisis. This is impacting charities large and small, we are seeing some closing their doors, others scaling back services - both of these outcomes resulting in reduction of support for those who need it most. We need to stop fighting for the same shrinking funding pool. Can we reimagine how we approach funding and service delivery in the not-for-profit space? is there a collaborative, more holistic, collective approach? I've been thinking about this for the Digital Equity sector. Keen to hear what others think. https://lnkd.in/gfXXW5N2

Stocks are low at Recycle A Device! Please share this call out for laptops with your networks 🚨‼️🚨
There's only 89 laptops in the Recycle A Device warehouse. That's critically low stocks. Do you have any sitting in a storage cupboard we can have? 👵 Less than 10 years old 🔌 With their chargers Laptops that are donated to RAD go to Entelar Group for data sanitisation, then out to one of 40 refurbishment clubs across the motu to be repaired and gifted to someone who needs it. What would your life look like without your device(s)? We rely so much on the digital world, yet 20% of us face barriers to being part of it. 📷 Some of the incredible ākonga at Horowhenua College getting stuck in and fixing up a laptop
