For this week’s installment of our Get to Know DOB series, please meet Chintan Desai, our Deputy Commissioner for Manhattan! Chintan has been a cornerstone of the Department of Buildings since 2014, bringing his expertise to the Department of Technical Affairs. He plays a pivotal role in overseeing plan examinations, approvals, permits, development inspections, and ensuring safety through rigorous enforcement. But Chintan’s contributions don’t stop there! He’s the go-to support for the Borough Commissioner, stepping in wherever he’s needed. Whether it’s personally meeting with applicants to find solutions or handling Certificates of Occupancy for new buildings, Chintan is always at the heart of the action, ensuring Manhattan's skyline continues to rise safely and smoothly.

FYI: The department is aware that NYC.ID is currently experiencing intermittent issues affecting access to DOB NOW. Our team is actively working to resolve the problem. Thank you for your patience!

Huge thanks to the hundreds who joined this afternoon’s Building Tech Lab info session! At the session, DOB staff and our friends at Partnership for New York City answered questions about the challenge, which also provided interesting insight on what applicants are thinking of bringing to the table! To help shape the future of how New York City regulates construction and development throughout the five boroughs, the DOB and Partnership Fund for New York City have launched the Buildings Tech Lab to identify innovative solutions from the global tech sector to address complex DOB priorities as it works to ensure the overall safety, compliance, and quality of the city's built environment.
