For this week’s installment of our Get to Know DOB series, please meet William Singer, R.A., a Code and Zoning Specialist in our Tech Affairs Code & Zoning Interpretation Unit! The Tech Affairs Code & Zoning Interpretation Unit plays a crucial role in shaping New York City's future. Our team reviews, approves, or denies Code and Zoning determinations, collaborates closely with the NYC Department of City Planning to update zoning regulations, helps draft new or revised building codes, and leads training for Plan Examination Units. Within Tech Affairs, William is one of our go-to experts for researching and drafting Construction Code and Zoning Determinations, as well as handling special requests. But that’s not all—he wears many hats! William also supervises the DOB’s ATRU Unit, teaches at DOB’s Buildings University, serves as the point person for the public and HPD to resolve BIS Single Room Occupancy restricted designations, and helps translate new zoning regulations into actionable guidelines for plan examiners. William’s work keeps the city moving forward, one determination at a time!
