The All by April campaign sparked inspiration, community, and real change this election cycle and beyond! We are thrilled to share what we learned: 📢 All by April mobilized $155 million in early resources by asking funders to make election-related grants earlier in the year. 🎯 As a result, nonpartisan, nonprofit organizations were empowered to plan and execute their election strategies more effectively, secure resources at lower costs, and engage voters earlier in the election cycle. 💭 This campaign also helped change expectations about how philanthropy can support election-related work. We work on things that make democracy work better.
About us
Democracy Fund is an independent and nonpartisan, private foundation that confronts deep-rooted challenges in American democracy while defending against new threats. Since 2014, we have made grants of more than $275 million in support of those working to strengthen our democracy through the pursuit of a vibrant and diverse public square, free and fair elections, effective and accountable government, and a just and inclusive society. In addition to grantmaking, Democracy Fund advocates for better solutions and works with partners to grow philanthropic support for our democracy. Democracy Fund champions leaders and organizations who defend democracy and challenge our political system to be more open, just, resilient, and trustworthy. We believe experimentation, learning, and adaptation are key to the health and resilience of any system, whether it is our organization or the American political system. As grantmakers, we focus on listening and being of service to our grantees, who are visionaries and our collaborators, and on ways we can more deeply embed diversity, equity, and inclusion as our values central to the success of our work and mission. Did you know that people from the U.S. territories — 98 percent of whom are people of color — are denied basic political rights, such as the right to vote for president or voting representation in Congress – all while paying more than $5 billion a year in federal taxes? For 126 years (since the Spanish-American War in 1898) they have also been denied the freedom to determine the nature and scope of their relationship with the United States. https://lnkd.in/ep3Z3t9J

With the elections just 36 days away, how are you feeling about American democracy? Our report, "Democracy Hypocrisy," shows that most of us (at least hypothetically) would choose partisan interests over the principles of democracy. https://lnkd.in/egJWhGCn

It's a privilege to partner with Javier H. Valdés and Right to Democracy on this important work.

Democracy doesn’t work unless every voice has a vote. It shouldn’t be surprising to anyone that this disproportionately affects people of color.

Honored to say my boss, Winny Chen, co-wrote this amazing op-ed around a topic often over-looked in mainstream discussions of representation.
