We are excited to announce that Delta Waterfowl has partnered with several other sporting-conservation organizations as part of the American Wildlife Conservation Partners on 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 21𝘴𝘵 𝘊𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘺, 𝘝𝘰𝘭𝘶𝘮𝘦 𝘝𝘐𝘐, a guiding document addressing key conservation challenges for habitat and hunting access. “Our partners that make up AWCP should be proud of their ability to coalesce around a shared set of policy priorities which, should they be adopted, would produce real and meaningful benefits for hunters, habitat, and wildlife across the United States,” said John Devney, AWCP vice-chair and chief policy officer for Delta Waterfowl. “It is a comprehensive suite of recommendations that can serve as a blueprint for conservation and hunting policy in the future.” https://lnkd.in/g7fVr6HK

Last weekend, students from Louisiana State University participated in a hunter education and shotgun safety day with the assistance of the local Bengal Tiger Delta Waterfowl Chapter. The following day, the participants were mentored on their first teal hunt, where the majority successfully harvested their first ducks. The LSU event was a homecoming, of sorts, for Delta's UHP because it's where our president and chief scientist first came up with the idea all those years ago! https://lnkd.in/g8tVNuxP

Earlier this summer, 12 graduate students traveled to Bismarck, ND, to join us at HQ and participate in a Waterfowl Breeding Ecology field course. Over the nine days of the course, the students were taken around the Prairie Pothole Region to gain hands-on experience with waterfowl research practices and to learn about the policy work carried out to conserve the vital ecosystem of the PPR. Ava Britton, a student from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, shared her account of the course, the materials she learned, and how the entire experience reinforced her decision to pursue a career in natural resource management. https://lnkd.in/gmwcV4vu

Did you know that an estimated 70% of students studying wildlife management and biology have little or no prior exposure to hunting? 🦆 🎓 This trend is concerning because these future leaders in waterfowl management will one day make decisions that directly impact ducks and duck hunters. In response, Delta Waterfowl launched the University Hunting Program to provide these students with insight into the ecological, economic, recreational, and moral virtues of hunting. Last season, we set a record with 103 participating universities across the continent. We aim even higher for the 2024-2025 season, targeting 125 institutions to participate in this critical initiative! To offer this program at your University, visit the link below. https://lnkd.in/g8tVNuxP

Delta members, the Fall issue of Delta Waterfowl Magazine is headed to your mailbox! 📬 As we close in on the fall flight, this issue features expert forecasts from our team for duck and goose numbers in each flyway to help you prepare for the hunting season. You'll also find a story of the challenges faced while hunting stale birds late last season in California’s Central Valley, which gave our colleague, an Atlantic Flyway native, a fresh perspective on what it means to be a duck hunter. Finally, we pay a heartfelt tribute to John Dale, whose generous contributions to ducks and duck hunters have cemented his legacy as one of the greatest conservationists of our time. As always, the Delta Waterfowl magazine is filled with hunting strategies, waterfowl recipes, duck dog training tips, programmatic updates, and more! Last weekend, students at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point participated in the Delta University Hunting Program under the guidance of Prof. Ben Sedinger and Delta Wisconsin River Valley Chapter mentors, including supporter Jake Rocke. This was the fifth consecutive year for Delta UHP at UWSP but the first at which they were joined by Prof. Jamie Nack and a grad student from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Delta's UHP curriculum includes shooting safety and skills training, an actual hunt, and follow-up on the care and cooking of the birds taken. The Stevens Point/Madison participants benefited from all of these experiences during an early-season Canada goose hunt near Point. https://lnkd.in/g8tVNuxP
