About us
The Delaware IDeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence (INBRE) is a collaborative network of Delaware academic, health care and research institutions. It is made up of five partner institutions: University of Delaware, Delaware State University, ChristianaCare, Delaware Technical Community College & Nemours Children's Health. DE-INBRE catalyzes multidisciplinary biomedical research initiatives that build Delaware’s biomedical research capacity and workforce. Its goal is to expand research activities across basic, translational and clinical areas throughout the First State while also increasing Delaware’s competitiveness for federal biomedical research funding. In doing so, Delaware INBRE supports impactful, state-of-the-art research that creates jobs, prepares tomorrow’s workforce and improves the health of Delawareans. DE-INBRE accomplishes this by funding four major activities. These are: ~Providing biomedical research opportunities to undergraduates ~Supporting newly independent early-career investigators on their quest to become established scientists ~Improving Delaware’s research infrastructure by removing barriers to research core facility access and fostering research core facility operations Identifying and reducing barriers to biomedical data access while training Delaware’s biomedical workforce in data science methods Delaware INBRE is supported by a grant from the National Institute of General Medical Sciences Institutional Development Award [NIH-NIGMS: P20 GM103446] and the state of Delaware.

Over the course of 10 weeks, I conducted full-time research through the Delaware INBRE Summer Scholars Program. I worked with graduate and undergraduate students in Dr. Jason Gleghorn's lab at the University of Delaware, where we developed microfluidic systems for modeling infections of the female genital tract, immune responses, and drug delivery. Last week, I presented my research project, "Development and finite element modeling of modular organ-on-chip platforms" at the UD Undergraduate Research Symposium. Throughout this experience, I honed my skills in 3D CAD design using SolidWorks, finite element analysis and data extraction with FEBio, cell culture techniques, and device manufacturing. Additionally, I participated in numerous professional development workshops and networking events, further advancing my career in biomedical engineering. I want to give a special thank you to Bryan Ferrick and Jason Gleghorn for all of their support throughout my research.

So thankful for the opportunity to have done summer research with Kevin Solomon’s lab through Delaware INBRE! This was a fantastic experience and I have learned a lot about laboratory processes and procedures! I met so many cool people and opened myself up to a plethora of new opportunities. Thank you to my mentor Akash Vaidya and Mruthula for teaching me so much!

I am pleased to announce that I have successfully completed my first internship and poster presentation over the summer at University of Delaware INBRE Delaware INBRE working in Dr. Megan Wenner's Women's Cardiovascular Health Research Lab. I was able to research the effects of oral contraceptive use on blood pressure reactivity in young premenopausal women. I had learned many new research methods and had the opportunity to witness many studies on cardiovascular health such as screenings, blood draws, and consent forms. I thoroughly enjoyed my summer experience and I was able to gain new research skills throughout my experience. This experience was helpful in making new connections, presenting research for the first time, and being able to conduct research in a lab setting with other graduate students. This will be an experience to remember and I am glad I was presented with the opportunity for this internship at University of Delaware.
