“9/11 was something personal for me... I thought it would be kind of fun to memorialize the heroes like the police officers, firefighters, and everyone else with something cool like a run,” said DLA Joint Reserve Force Chief of Staff, Navy Capt. Onofrio Margioni. One month ago today, Capt. Margioni led a group of 50 runners at the inaugural “Pentagon to Ground Zero Run,” a 270-mile relay race from the Pentagon to Ground Zero that pays tribute to the heroes of 9/11. DLA employees like Stacey Pilling and Navy Cmdr. Raymond Piechowicz also participated in the run. The event, which spanned four days, highlighted resilience, remembrance, and community, with proceeds supporting the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. To learn more about Capt. Margioni's experience, read the full article here: #NeverForget #911Heros #FirstResponders #CharityRun #TunnelstoTowers #Remembrance | Tunnel to Towers Foundation
About us
As the nation’s combat logistics support agency, the Defense Logistics Agency manages the end-to-end global defense supply chain – from raw materials to end user disposition – for the five military services, 11 combatant commands, other federal, state and local agencies and partner and allied nations. DLA’s mission is to “deliver readiness and lethality to the Warfighter Always and support our nation through quality, proactive global logistics.” To accomplish this mission, DLA has a staff of about 25,000 employees divided into multiple supply chains that contract for material and services across the military classes of supply, to include: subsistence (food/water), clothing and textiles, bulk petroleum and other energy products, construction material and equipment, personal demand items, medical material and equipment, and repair parts for land, sea and air systems. DLA Quick Facts: - DLA procures items from manufacturers and suppliers and provides them to DoD and other federal/state customers, with services such as warehousing, packaging and transportation; - DLA contracts for items that are shipped directly by the manufacturer to military units and installations; - DLA disposes of excess military property through reutilization, resale and demilitarization programs. Entering its second year, DLA expanded its PaCE orientation, offering more than 25 contracting specialists and technical professionals the chance to connect with senior leaders, engage with peers, and explore career development opportunities. Current and recent PaCERs, like Courtney Minor and Annalise Henzler, shared how the orientation helped them build connections and see the full scope of DLA’s mission to support the warfighter. “The orientation helped me see the full picture of what ‘Warfighter First, Warfighter Always,’ means because everyone’s job is vital to helping the warfighter, and there are so many different teams putting in all of this effort to make sure things work,” said Annalise Henzler, a contracting specialist.
