As part of our California Truth and Healing Fund program, Amber Banks, Ph.D.(VP of Programs) and Carlos Rojas Alvarez (Director of Strategic Initiatives) attended the Quarterly California Truth and Healing Council meeting in Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo earlier this month. Over two days, our team met with California Truth and Healing Fund grantee partners and advisory committee members and also viewed the soon-to-open Santa Ynez Chumash Museum and Cultural Center. The meeting included a time for attendees to share stories about their families and Tribal histories in California. "The California Truth and Healing Council process addresses the historical trauma inflicted on Native peoples through genocide and land theft, sharing stories to illuminate colonization's impacts and celebrating cultural resilience. While truth-telling is essential, it's important to recognize that genuine healing requires justice beyond mere acknowledgment of past wrongs." - Dr. Amber Banks DWP is honored to support Tribal and organizational participation in the Council processes and beyond through our #LiberatedCapital California Truth and Healing Fund.
