#DGSDelivers – We're excited to announce the completion of the Garfield ES $60.5 million modernization! This project transformed 70,300 sqft into a vibrant, sustainable learning environment for 363 students. This school is just one of the six modernizations DGS delivered this summer – representing over $400 million in modernizations and renovations; thanks to Mayor Bowser’s investments and commitment to education and improving DC’s building infrastructure. Designed with the future in mind, with sustainability features like geothermal wells, bio-retention areas, stormwater management, and flexible and open classrooms for learning, Garfield ES received a major transformation! The historic building is a vibrant learning space that includes Ward 8's first teaching kitchen, new gym, and inspiring public art commissioned through the DGS Percent for Art program; DGS is proud to deliver a space where students can succeed. 🎒Happy First Day of School, DC! We're proud to celebrate the delivery of the new Miner Early Childhood Education Center in #Ward7! This $15M project includes an addition to the historic building, nine classrooms, a new sensory focused playground and more! Designed as a LEED Gold facility, the modernization extends the useful life of the facility, and features bio-retention areas, plumbing to reduce indoor water usage by 30%, enhanced indoor air quality infrastructure, low emitting materials, thermal comfort, and energy saving lighting throughout historic building. ♻️ The renovation was all about preserving the charm of the original structure while adding modern touches. We're excited to share ongoing renovations at Turkey Thicket Splash Park, made possible by Mayor Bowser's FY24 investments. Our Capital Construction Services Division and small business contractors are leading a comprehensive overhaul renovation. Upgrades include resurfacing, the installation of new water systems, and enhanced safety features. This work will rejuvenate the splash park and be ready to make a splash next summer, with completion slated for this fall.
