It’s been an exciting whirlwind of travel for our team, with several industry conferences and conventions packed into the last few weeks! We were thrilled to connect with so many at the International Association of Movers annual meeting, where we had insightful discussions and strengthened industry ties. From there, Scott Canary and Brandon Day hit the ground running, heading to DC for the WERC last week, while Jane Carole Bunting, MBA, MAMC represented us at the North Carolina Movers Association, Inc. Congratulations to Daycos Advisory Board Member, Charles White for being inducted into the International Association of Movers Hall of Honor last week at IAM's annual meeting.
Yesterday I had the honor of seeing my friend Charles White being inducted into the International Association of Movers Hall of Honor. I have been fortunate to have made many friends in my nearly 30 years in the HHG industry. However, none of those friendships have been as enduring and meaningful as my friendship with Chuck. Chuck was one of the first people I met when I was brand new to the industry. I never would have guessed way back then we would become friends, because on the surface we didn't have a lot in common. Chuck was a gregarious, talkative, African American who grew up in and lived in the DC/Baltimore for most of his life. I was a shy, introverted white guy who grew up and lived in rural Nebraska. He is even a Dallas Cowboys fan, while I root for the Washington Commanders. And in deference to Chuck, I won't even mention the (substantial) age difference. Despite these differences, over the course of nearly thirty years and through countless meetings, conferences, dinners, lunches, phone calls, receptions, sporting events; a lifelong friendship emerged. Chuck had always been someone I could talk through industry issues, discuss personal and professional challenges, or just share an enjoyable meal during an otherwise grueling travel schedule. I always knew our friendship would outlive our working relationship, and since Chuck’s retirement, that has proven to be true. I feel fortunate to be able to I call Chuck a friend, and proud to see him receive this well-deserved honor for his years of service to this industry.
