Next week at #EMNLP, our Head of Research, Ben Hagag, will present LegalLens at the NLLP Workshop in Miami. This time, he’ll showcase a global effort— in which more than 100 participants joined Darrow AI's shared task to advance legal NLP. LegalLens is our breakthrough algorithm, bridging law and real-world data to detect legal violations at scale. It’s a step toward making justice accessible in a data-driven world. If you're attending #EMNLP, don't miss Ben's session.

Culture eats strategy for breakfast - a data driven outlook into the elections Frankly, I wrote this before the actual results but it’s interesting to see how different strategies manifest in the data about how different candidates spend and HOW. I took a few ad transparency tools for a spin. Ad transparency centers are our way to look into who is advertising and what, as a recent legislation around ad transparency in Europe - the Digital Services Act that addresses illegal content, transparent advertising and disinformation. My goal was to see how political ads are behaving in terms of marketing strategy driving the most impactful civil decision: Leadership. --- So, DOES a bigger ad budget guarantee a better campaign? The numbers tell part of the story: - Harris Harris spent a whopping $11.4 million on ads in just the past week. - Trump spent significantly less, at $3.6 million.  The ratio of digital ads was about 3-1 respectively. But it's not just about how much they spent, it's about how they allocated the bids. Target Audiences: - Trump locked in on older demographics. - Harris’ campaign spread the budget evenly across all age groups. Which may say “everyone”, where the competition for attention is fierce. Geographic Focus: - Trump concentrated over 20% of his budget on key swing states like Michigan and Pennsylvania, with only 10% on nationwide ads. - Harris funneled the majority of the funds into nationwide campaigns, dedicating less to individual states, even the swing states. Although it was significantly higher than other states. Interest Targeting: This is where it gets funny. - Trump chose niche interests such as fox hunting, golf, and fishing (and literally 30 types of fishing/hunting categories).  - Harris opted for broader themes like activism and social movements. Collaborations: - Harris had many paid partnerships with various news outlets (at least the ones disclosed). - Trump primarily sticks to his own pages, with minimal external partnerships, but with an interesting amount of individual influencers and persona pages. What's Missing from This Picture? - Platform Transparency: We lack data on their ad spending and strategies on other platforms like X (formerly Twitter), which doesn't offer the same transparency as Meta and Google, limiting the results to where the DSA applies strictly, in Europe. Digital vs. Physical Advertising: In an increasingly digital world, it's easy to focus solely on online ad spend. However, physical advertising still holds sway, especially among older demographics who may be more influenced by traditional media. I truly believe that this is an example of knowing who your “lead” is, rather than guessing, praying and projecting. That’s all for today folks, just me nerding over #webint tools for marketing tools. Usually we use them for Darrow AI stuff, but today was for my own nerdy questions. Those tools are completely free and accessible to all. Try them out!

Happy Election Day! This is a great time to reflect on the strength of our democracy, the foundation of our society.  Democracy is more than a system; it’s a commitment to equal rights, justice, and the power of every individual to help shape our future. It is the thread that unites us, empowering each person’s voice to be heard. Voting is a powerful reminder that no matter where we come from or what we believe, we all share the same right to make our voices count. Through this collective action, we ensure that justice and fairness prevail, giving everyone a stake in the decisions that shape our lives. At Darrow, we stand by these values - where every voice matters, and every person deserves the chance to be the author of their own story.

Meet Talya Scolnik Legal Data Quality Team Lead at Darrow AI 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada, and after a gap year in Jerusalem volunteering and studying, I moved to New York City for college. While there, I completed law school, married my husband, and we welcomed our son. I worked at a large corporate law firm before we decided to relocate to Israel, following some of our family who had already made the move. Here, our daughter was born, and I have been working at Darrow for nearly two years. I’m deeply in love with Tel Aviv. I thought I would be ready to leave much sooner, but after four years I still feel addicted to the place! My husband, Yaakov, and I now live here with our son, Amir, who is five, and our daughter, Ella, who just turned three. 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗽𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗼𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗿 𝗷𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆?  My dad was a big inspiration for my career path. Coming from a practical family, he always shared how he focused on what he was good at in school, like math and science, which led him to become a doctor. That idea stuck with me, and as I found myself drawn to reading, writing, and debating, law just felt like the right fit. His advice to lean into my strengths really helped me find my direction. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗮𝗱𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗲𝗰𝗵 𝗳𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱?  My advice for anyone entering the legaltech field is to be ready to think beyond traditional boundaries. Law is often a very structured, old-school field where things are done the way they have always been done. Legaltech, however, requires a different mindset, where you stay open to new approaches, ideas and processes and navigate the unexpected with a flexible mindset. Just as law school teaches you to think differently, legaltech pushes you yet again to change your mindset and be even more creative, challenge limits, and take risks. It might feel uncomfortable at first, but if you lean into it, it is incredibly exciting and rewarding. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝗮 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝘁 𝗗𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗼𝘄?  A proud moment at Darrow was working on my first-ever case. I collaborated closely with Harel on a major financial antitrust case, where I was given the freedom to figure things out from scratch. We sat in a back area of the office, brainstorming and piecing the case together, and it was exciting to shape the story, attend client calls, get feedback, and strategize with the partnerships team. When the case was ultimately filed by our partner, it was a huge moment for me. I felt the full impact of our work and the potential we have here.

A moment in history: the Federalist Papers Hamilton fans - this one is for you. On this day in 1787, the Federalist Papers were first published, planting the seeds for a democratic system rooted in equality, fairness, and the rule of law. These essays laid the groundwork for the U.S. Constitution and continue to inspire our thinking about governance and justice ⚖️. As we look back on this pivotal landmark moment, we are reminded of the importance of our efforts at Darrow to promote justice and the protection of rights. The values that inspired these writings over 200 years ago continue to inspire our work today.

Employees are at risk of being misclassified when businesses incorrectly label them as contractors rather than full or part-time workers, which can lead to the loss of important benefits and legal protections. In our latest blog, Zoe Aharon explores the legal framework of employee misclassification, including the economic reality test, the penalties businesses may face for non-compliance, and how technology is being used to uncover these cases.
