It’s not every day an Insurtech company gets an #AI #Patent for a Cyber Insurance Underwriting method, so when we got the notice of allowance of our patent at Cyberwrite, it was a great sense of achievement and much fun. Nowadays, many people think of AI only in the generative AI sense, such as #ChatGPT, which is fantastic. However, using AI for #underwriting purposes in #insurance and banking is becoming a growing part of daily activities and an essential part of managing profitable books of business. It gets less exposure in our everyday lives but has a positive impact nonetheless. We’re proud to unveil our latest report, Reframing Cyber Risk: Navigating Threats and Embracing Opportunities. Through insights underpinned by data analytics, the first-of-its kind report challenges perceptions of cyber systemic risk, whilst highlighting untapped opportunities for the strategic expansion of cyber portfolios. The report sheds light on the often misunderstood landscape of cyber risk, challenging a persistent narrative of imminent digital catastrophe. The report highlights that while the threat of large-scale cyber attacks is often seen as a key obstacle to the market’s growth, they face significant execution challenges. Instead, rather than cyber cats (re)insurers are more commonly dealing with “cyber-kittens”, smaller incidents with more contained and manageable impacts. Our analysis suggests that larger carriers assume disproportionately little cyber risk when compared with nat-cat, even though nat-cat historically produces more significant losses relative to written premiums. This cautious approach may be limiting the industry’s ability to capitalise on the significant opportunities presented by cyber (re)insurance.
