I had a great experience representing Cuyahoga County Enterprise GIS at the Global Lean Summit in Columbus, Indiana. I have learned a lot about how to implement Lean concepts in my department for the benefit of Cuyahoga County and our residents. The tour of Toyota Material Handling was an emersive learning experience where we went to see the practice of Lean and Kaizen. 5S, Gemba Walks, Obeya, PDCA are Lean terms, but seeing them in real world practice makes them relevant, regardless of the differences between government and manufacturing. #globalleansummit

I arrived at work this morning and received a message from the boss, Andy Johnson that Executive Chris Ronayne wanted to see us regarding a recognition from State of Ohio Representative Sean Patrick Brennan. Andy, Daniel G., and I went to the press conference being held at County Headquarters and met with Representative Brennan and Executive Ronayne. Representative Brennan presented me with an official recognition from the Ohio House of Representatives, congratulating Cuyahoga County's Enterprise GIS group for the work we have done to inform the citizens of Cuyahoga County on the property valuation process. During our discussion, I learned that Representative Brennan was a Geography teacher, which lends to his true appreciation for the work we do with GIS at Cuyahoga County. I have a lot of respect for the work he did teaching Geography and as an elected official who understands the importance of place and the power of the map. It is also an honor and privilege to work for Executive Chris Ronayne because he is a champion of geographically informed government and the importance that place has on data-driven decisions. Cuyahoga County citizens are in good hands with the leadership of these two gentlemen. Thank you for the congratulations, Representative Brennan.
