A.D Williams once said “When I look into the eyes of an animal, I do not see an animal. I see a living being. I see a friend. I feel a soul.” Animals are the substance of this world, they bring noise when all else is silent, and motion when all else is still. It’s because of animals that our world feels alive, just one more reason we at DEEP work to protect it. 🛡 In celebration of #NationalWildlifeDay, DEEP encourages curious minds to read up on wildlife across CT in our Wildlife Factsheets: https://lnkd.in/eJFze8t6. 🐭 What is an animal that makes you smile? Comment down below and share the love we have for Earth’s many occupants. 🌎

👏 Congratulations Middletown. Since Middletown’s Sanitation District “SAVE AS YOU THROW” program started... Middletown reduced trash by 32% ♻This means that households are recycling more, generating and sending less trash to landfills or incinerators! 🍎 Middletown collected 47 tons of food scraps Food scraps are being sent for composting and to an anaerobic digestor to generate renewable energy. Food Scraps don’t belong in the trash. 🏆 Middletown met the State's 60% waste diversion* goal. 💡 Some is sent for composting or to an anaerobic digestor to generate renewable energy. Sanitation District households diverted 62% of materials from disposal. 📉 Middletown is generating less trash per week and is the second community in CT to reach the state waste diversion goal to divert 60% of materials from disposal! 💥 Sanitation District residents are creating 10 lbs. of trash per week - the state average is 19 lbs. per person! 🎉Congratulations, Middletown! Your “Save As You Throw” program for trash and food scrap collection is a model for other municipalities to reduce trash. Keep up the good work. https://lnkd.in/eQCGy9jm *Waste diversion means redirecting materials from landfills and incinerators by recycling or reuse. Not everything that goes in the trash belongs in the trash.
