We were so excited to serve as the host site today for the Colorado Science Conference — a one-day professional development and networking conference for science educators, including K-12 teachers, college instructors, informal educators, administrators, pre-service teachers, and retired teachers! It was an honor to provide a space for this vibrant exchange of knowledge and collaboration 🧑🔬

How can we fit our urban landscapes with the most resilient tree species possible to withstand the stresses of climate change? This week the Forestry Hub at #CSUSpur broke ground on a new research grove just outside of the Hydro Backyard to try to figure out just that 🌲 This plot will feature 10 different trees from eight different species that, over the next couple of years, will undergo intentional stress conditions with the specific goal of understanding which trees perform best in terms of water use for urban landscapes. The Community Forestry Hub at #CSUSpur fosters healthy and resilient forests in cities and towns across Colorado through public engagement and education, workforce development, and applied research. It is a collaborative effort among the Colorado State Forest Service, Warner College of Natural Resources, CSU College of Agricultural Sciences, and other natural resource partners. Thank you to our friends at nearby SuperTrees Incorporated for providing the trees and facilitating the planting!

It’s always a blast when the Girl Scouts of Colorado take over campus 🚀🚀 The theme of this year's event was “The Science of Storytelling,” with activities that explored diverse voices in the science community, how their stories are told, and how we can tell stories about the world around us!

Any guesses how many trout eggs are in this little bag? Earlier this week Denver Trout Unlimited dropped off a new group of trout eggs for our community tank on the 4th floor of Hydro. In about 9 months our team will release them in the river once they are able, but for right now you can swing by and watch them actively grow up close and learn all about the trout life cycle from the beginning!

Meet Rebekah Buena — a graduate of nearby Bruce Randolph School in Denver who got hooked on higher education while visiting #CSUSpur, interned with Dr. Jennifer Bousselot, and recently entered CSU as an Honors student in landscape architecture. She is one of eight students highlighted in a new docuseries by the #CSUSystem that charts the stories of first-generation scholars as they pursue higher education and its benefits, and the first episode is now streaming at csusystem.edu/first-degree 🎉
In 1984, Colorado State University became the first university in the country to offer scholarships for first-generation students, and universities around the country quickly adopted the model. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of these programs, the #CSUSystem is releasing First Degree – a new documentary series that highlights the personal and academic journeys of first-generation students. The first in this series follows Rebekah Buena, a freshman at the CSU College of Agricultural Sciences studying landscape architecture after being inspired during her time interning as a research assistant with Dr. Jen Bousselot at the CSU Spur campus in Denver. You can watch the first installment from First Degree in its entirety here 👉 csusystem.edu/first-degree
