Contrary to what some people believe, the price of gold typically doesn’t track inflation. Notice, specifically, the three-year returns of gold versus the S&P 500 Index. Annual inflation hit 4.7% in 2021 and 8.0% in 2022. However, instead of protecting against inflation, gold generated a negative annual real return. Those who remained invested in stocks would have fared much better, as the S&P 500 returned 8.1% during the same period.

Last week on Wednesday, August 21st, our staff at Giving the Basics had to honor of hosting the first Uncommon Leaders Luncheon at our distribution center. Over 100+ Kansas City professionals, friends, and supporters filled the volunteer room for an afternoon of networking, enthusiasm, and celebration. We want to personally thank Peter Mallouk, CEO of Creative Planning , supporter, and first recipient of our human dignity award, for his inspirational words as our keynote speaker. We also had the privilege of honoring Tom Holcom (volunteer of the year) and Scott Kincaid of the The Kincaid Group (business of the year), with our human dignity awards for 2024. Finally, a big thank you to KMBC 9 news anchors, Jamie Weiss and Bryan Busby for emceeing the event. We have been inspired by all those present who have served as examples of uncommon leaders. All those present have been successful in business, but have also taken steps to turn success into significance by inspiring others to get involved. To all our uncommon leaders, we appreciate you!
