This week, our Respiratory Care team had the opportunity to give a guest lecture for Respiratory Therapy students at Missouri Southern State University. The lecture included a demonstration of arterial line insertions and more techniques practiced by CoxHealth RTs. "We enjoy the opportunity to invest in new RRTs that will be entering the workforce, passing along knowledge in the hopes that this will help them grow and become the kind of therapists that we would be relieved to see take care of a loved one some day," says Joel Sutherland, supervisor, Respiratory Care. Over the past two years, RTs at CoxHealth have worked to expand their skills in order to utilize the full scope of their licenses. "Arterial line insertion is vitally important for quick, accurate monitoring of critically ill patients. Often times, critical care physicians experience such high workloads, and they have difficulty getting to the bedside. Having qualified Respiratory Therapists available for arterial line insertion ensures timely response for those patients in rapid decline," says Julie Lawson, assistant director, Respiratory Care. For the second year in a row, we are honored to be recognized by Newsweek Magazine as one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces!" This recognition is especially meaningful to us because it is based on employee feedback and interviews, which cover topics such as benefits, training and career progression, work-life balance, and company culture. “At CoxHealth, we believe our people are our greatest asset, and this recognition is a reflection of the dedication and commitment of our entire team,” says Andy Hedgpeth, vice president of human resources at CoxHealth. “Workforce is a strategic priority for us, and we’re proud to see that our commitment to our team’s well-being and success is resonating.” Learn more about the recognition in the release below or on our website! +++ CoxHealth has been named one of “America’s Greatest Workplaces” in 2024 by Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group.  CoxHealth achieved a 4.5-star rating out of a possible five stars based on a large-scale employer study, including topics such as benefits, training and career progression, work-life balance and company culture. CoxHealth was one of six health care service providers across Missouri to be included on the list.  “At CoxHealth, we believe our people are our greatest asset, and this recognition is a reflection of the dedication and commitment of our entire team,” says Andy Hedgpeth, vice president of human resources at CoxHealth. “Workforce is a strategic priority for us, and we’re proud to see that our commitment to our team’s well-being and success is resonating.” CoxHealth offers several programs focused on supporting employees in the workplace. Recently, CoxHealth implemented a redesigned health and wellness benefit package due to employee survey feedback. The new benefits package includes lower costs and deductibles, enhanced maternity benefits, simplified copays and more. CoxHealth also provides many workforce development programs, including student loan repayment, tuition reimbursement and assistance and apprenticeships for certain positions.  “It’s always an honor to be recognized, especially on the national level, but it’s particularly meaningful when it comes directly from our own team members,” says Hedgpeth.  This is the second year in a row CoxHealth has received this recognition. Newsweek and Plant-A Insights Group selected companies on the list through a 5-part evaluation, including interviews, employee surveys, measurements of key performance indicators, media monitoring and more. Studies were based on over 1.5 million comprehensive company reviews from over 250,000 employees.  The 1,500 highest-scoring employers were included in the 2024 “American’s Greatest Workplaces” list across 78 industries, which appears in the Newsweek online here: https://lnkd.in/g72J8H86

Recently, nursing colleagues from across our system were invited to Finley Farms for an evening of recognition and celebration for their professional accomplishments. At the event, we were honored to recognize many of these individuals, including Frani Spain, assistant director of our Central Staffing office. Frani was awarded the 2024 Nurse Leadership Silver Award for her remarkable ability to both support and empower her team as a leader. Read her nomination below: “Frani inspires her team to be high performers and to take on stretch assignments by leading from the front. Many of her team members have shared that they never saw themselves as leaders until Frani believed in their potential by encouraging and supporting them. True leaders like Frani create an environment where people can flourish, and because of this she has many stand out performers in her department.” “Frani has brought a diverse group of nurses (ER, ICU, Specialty and Med-Surg) together to form one of the strongest teams I have ever worked on. She has an innate ability to see the potential in situations and people. She recognizes what to say or do to achieve the highest productivity from her team. She has the vision and drive to accomplish anything and has inspired others to find that drive within themselves. Frani has changed this department into a growing, successful and desired area of opportunity in the hospital. In my 30 years of nursing, I have never worked for a more understanding, supportive and caring person. I feel lucky to be a member of this great work family she has built.”

When Stephanie Muncy looks back on her first year as an RN with the surgical unit at Cox Branson, at least one interaction with an orthopedic patient stands out. "I really like orthopedics, which is kind of my specialty," Stephanie says. "This patient had surgery and I got to see him go from right before the procedure to recovering post-op, and then being able to work with therapy the next day and go home." As Stephanie was helping the patient get in the truck to go home, the patient turned around, smiled and brought her in for a hug to express his gratitude. "It was just a really sweet moment that kind of reminded me of why I do this job," she says. "Just knowing that I made a difference and was able to help him recover. That was really, really touching for me." Making a difference as an RN in Stephanie’s unit includes caring for both pre- and post-surgical patients and coordinating that care with multiple departments within Cox Branson. She earned her associate's degree in nursing at North Arkansas College and soon will finish her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) at Arkansas Tech University. Adam Procter, surgical unit nurse manager, says Stephanie serves as an example of a great CoxHealth nurse. "She’s a compassionate, competent nurse who strives for excellence every day," Procter says. "Her skills, desire for knowledge and improvement, positive attitude and willingness to be a resource for her team make her an incredible asset to our team." Cox Branson is a hospital that’s woven into the fabric of the Branson community and provides the resources employees need to deliver great care for patients, Stephanie says. "This is a place that feels like a close-knit community hospital while also being large enough where you have opportunities for professional growth," she says. "You’ll have a chance to explore different career pathways and work at a place that does quite a bit as far as medical treatment goes." CoxHealth is set to host a hiring event for RNs and LPNs from 4-6 p.m. Aug. 13, 2024 at the Branson Convention Center’s Fall Creek Room.
