Our board is a reflection of our community, bringing together corporate partners, celebrity supporters, and Covenant House alumni. We're so proud of the diverse contributions they make to support our youth, and want to introduce them to you in our Meet The Board series. First up is Lauren Aguiar! Lauren joined the board in 2012 and the Executive Committee in 2023, and has been a valuable member of our community for years. As a Partner at Skadden, she frequently involves members of her law firm in various projects for Covenant House — on matters ranging from real estate, to employment, to trusts & estates, and potential litigation. Eventually, supporting Covenant House became a family affair. Lauren includes her 14-year-old son, Mason, as a way to feel connected and committed. “I have been talking with Mason about Covenant House since he was a toddler. When he was younger, we brought gifts to the NY shelter at the holidays, and we helped to serve meals for the Mother and Child program. Now, many years later, he is old enough to join me for the Sleep Out. It is such a wonderful way for us to live out the Covenant House mission together.”

It was a pouring rain in NYC last night, but dedicated supporters from the film & theater industries still showed up to sleep outside in solidarity with youth facing homelessness. More than 80 participants raised over $174,000 that will help to keep Covenant House's doors open 24/7. Thank you to all the Sleepers, and to each and every person who supported their appeals for funds. Your generosity means so much. For those who need a place to stay, it's the difference between a warm bed and a damp night outside. For our residents, it's support services that will help them break the cycle of homelessness. For all of us, it's a step toward ending youth homelessness as we know it.

"Overcoming homelessness is not easy, but it's not hard either — as long as you put in the work." - A'toree Havis, Covenant House Michigan artist & resident

In over a decade of collaboration, the Broadway community has come together to raise over $3 million for youth facing homelessness through Sleep Out: Stage & Screen. Like our partners in the performing arts, we recognize the power of a story to change the world for the better. As Broadway producer and longtime Covenant House supporter Jay Sullivan puts it: "To act is at the heart of theater, and taking action is at the heart of the Covenant House Sleep Out. It’s a tangible demonstration of support for a very worthy cause. It’s not surprising that the Broadway community has so frequently act-ed by joining us.” Read more about the special bond between Covenant House and Broadway at https://lnkd.in/eqdcxuW4

"Sleep Out gave me a tiny glimpse of the impossibility of what someone experiences when they have no place to call home...So, yes, I’ll do it again, with gratitude. When you have a safe place to sleep, giving up your bed for one night is a small sacrifice. It’s a symbolic gesture, but when coupled with the very practical matter of raising money to support young people through a difficult moment in their lives, and doing that in the company of your beloved stage and screen community, it can be a very powerful one." Thank you Miriam Silverman and all of our Sleep Out: Stage & Screen participants for your unconditional love and support for our youth.
