In honor of Respiratory Care Week, Covenant HealthCare recognized one extraordinary respiratory therapist with our 3rd Annual Pulmonary Health & Illnesses of the Lungs (PHIL) Award™ in partnership with The FACES Foundation last Thursday. 🦋 The PHIL Award™ was created in 2006 by Sharman Lamka in memory of Philip C. Lamka, who passed away due to complications from an interstitial lung disease. This award is the only nationally recognized hospital-based program that honors respiratory therapists, as nominated by patients and their loved ones, fellow caregivers and other colleagues. The 2024 PHIL Award™ goes to Scott Alleshunas, RRT! Scott has been part of the Covenant Team for 34 years. Here is an excerpt from one of his nominations: “My son was admitted for one night on the Pediatrics floor. Scott was very knowledgeable, personable and even gave my son some tips for his asthma at home. Whenever Scott came in for a treatment, my son and him talked about the Detroit Lions, school and he told him he wanted to be a respiratory therapist when he graduates. They could’ve talked for hours. My son does not open up to too many people but with Scott he felt very comfortable and enjoyed seeing him.
